Eric Nam talked about his education and the high-paying job that awaited him afterwards on the June 23 airing of JTBC's 'Old House New House.'

He said about his stay in the United States, "I studied international relations at Boston College.  I got a job at an accounting firm but went to do volunteer work for a year before; while I was in India, I was contacted by the audition program."

When asked, "Is it true that you'd have a salary of hundreds of millions of KRW (~ tens of thousands of USD) if you weren't a singer?" Eric Nam replied, "Including the bonus, it is correct that it'd be hundreds of millions of KRW.  I thought about it a lot.  I really wanted to go back but it also seemed like a waste to not properly try being a singer and to give it up."

Possible. A friend of mine got hired straight out of college( she major in accounting ) Her pay is so damn high; not sure if her bonus would up it to 100k though.

KRW 100,000,000 ----> USD 100,000. This is obviously a rough approximation as the exchange rate fluctuates by the second, but that's not "tens of thousands of USD". Tbh, it sounds like he was exaggerating. Studying international relations and graduating from a less recognized uni like boston college WILL NOT have you making USD$100,000 straight out of college. It'll take you AT LEAST 10 years, regardless of whether you're a genius or not, its how corporate america functions. You climb the ladder.

you are correct... article is wrong... 100 million won translates to $100,000 and that's not easy straight outta college

I don't think he was exaggerating the numbers. It's a fact that if he continued working there, he could've had a salary of $100000. And that is true. He said previously in an interview with MWave that he worked as a consultant in Deloitte Consulting. It's not easy to get into that firm. Based on Deloitte's salary for a consultant, as reported by some employees, increases by a small amount after your first year of around £27,000 - £29,000. In the subsequent 2 years, salary would be around £40,000. In that small span of time, you get to have nearly $100,000. How much more if he continued that job?

"if he continued working there, he could've had a salary of $100000. " Is that not what I'm saying?

Your post made me sign up lol Actually NO my friend works at that consulting firm she makes 30k starting off and she graduated with a business degree in one of the top 20 universities in the world (ranking); Boston's not even in that top 20 so he can't be making 100k off the bat. Even IF he was working there for several years he debut 2012 so it's only been 4 yrs he'd be making 40-50k MAX. There's also no way he'd get into the 100k bracket until after 10yrs tops. That firm recruits a lot of "top" quality people, competition is fierce his abilities are a dime a dozen especially with a major in International Business. Probably more attainable faster with a major in finance, economics, or accounting. But hey he gets to interview famous people, sing, and have fun and get paid as opposed to working in a desk job. I just wish idols/actors stop lying about standards in America like geez they give wrong info sometimes about how rich people are over here and that's not true. #I'manunemployedcollegegrad.

no. from what I understand, your point was, "Tbh, it sounds like he was exaggerating."

hahaha, hey that's just based on what the employees stated. And you see, if you convert £27,000 that's more or less 30k (you know, currency fluctuates). I am also an engineering graduate and our salary ranges from 40-50k for a fresh grad and our school's not one of the top 20 univ. You can't judge someone based on what school they're coming from. We don't know what eric nam is capable of doing. He might've been paid a little bit higher than others. Who knows. hey i'm not mad or anything. i just want to emphasize that he wasn't exaggerating. But as i have said, we don't know anything between eric nam and deloitte's contract.

Yes? And ultimately ""if he continued working there, he could've had a salary of $100000. "

no, you supported it with "It'll take you AT LEAST 10 years, regardless of whether you're a genius or not, its how corporate america functions. You climb the ladder." your 10-yr duration's quite exaggerated. My statement regarding his salary is " just based on what the employees stated. And you see, if you convert £27,000 that's more or less 30k (you know, currency fluctuates). I am also an engineering graduate and our salary ranges from 40-50k for a fresh grad and our school's not one of the top 20 univ. You can't judge someone based on what school they're coming from. Where did you get £27,000 from? I'm talking about the hundreds of millions of KRW that's specified in the article, not some fantasized number. So yes, when I said: "if he continued working there, he could've had a salary of $100000 " and ""It'll take you AT LEAST 10 years, regardless of whether you're a genius or not, its how corporate america functions. You climb the ladder", I meant by no means of exaggeration.

He's probably lying. He regrets coming to korea and becoming a singer, you can tell. He's one of those Foreign singers and they face discrimination a lot. Kinda feel sad for him. He would have been much happier in the U.S. Oh well, Hope his wife helps me out a little.

Seriously though - Korean people really like Eric Nam. I was in an English group recently helping some Korean people work on their English and a part of our exercises was to guess someone's ideal type. TWO GIRLS chose Eric Nam. I just think he's more popular with adult women (25-35) than he is with the teeny-boppers who do all the excessive voting and stuff.

I half agree with you that he probably does show signs of regret however I think it's more to boast or add to his "specs" as koreans call it.

AKP, hundreds of millions of KRW would be HUNDREDS of thousands of USD, not tens, lol. Most people in the US make tens of thousands.

he would have been working at Deloitte Consulting, which indeed would be paying him $60-70+ thousand USD a year straight out of college (idk about the KRW conversion); so it's pretty impressive, not everyone can get into that firm. go Eric for pursuing your dream!

i think he exaggerated the number a bit. I worked at an accounting firm (big 5), and while it's true that the salary is pretty big, plus the bonus and overtime payment also, but for a fresh grad, the total just wont count up to that number (im counting in KRW). I would be very rich right now if the actual pay was that much kkkkk

LOL yeah my friend works there and she's not getting paid THAT much and Eric's major is in international business; I would think Accounting/Finance majors would get paid more but even still not 100k. That being said I envy you for working at the big 5 LOL I'm trying to switch into business myself next year God willing.
