Double S 301 (SS301)

It's time to wipe away the tears and take a breath of relief as the long-awaited return of SS501 has come in the form of 3 with sub-unit group Double S 301 in their new song "Pain." The boys have been away from the scene for a few years and are coming back stronger than ever with their powerfully alluring song.

"Pain" is a song filled with charisma, various changes in sound and, overall, a rustic Latin sensation blended into the rough yet smooth vocals of Double S 301. "Pain" has a real "LOVEYA" vibe to it as the dance is chic and in-your-face while expressing the thrilling emotions of love. "Pain's" soft piano paired with the repetitive harmonic guitar riffs create a perfect mix of melodies. The song's instrumental offers an intense listen due to the dramatic rises in tempo and sudden drops into silence, making it a surprisingly dramatic track! Dive into the MV for yourself and check out what Double S 301 has brought to the table!

The most winning aspect is the uprise in tempo which really brings a rush to the listener as the chorus becomes intensified after the wacky rap verse prior to it. The"sweet and bitter"verse has a littleSeo Taijifeeling to it in the sense of capturing a zany sound but it makes "Pain" carry a whimsical charm and showcase some variety. The 'Engrish' lyrics are another loveable aspect of this song because every fan will forever be repeating"I'm so pain"when relevant. The build up before the final verse at2:25is quite intense as sirens play during the monotonous "pain" which then lead up to a high pitched high note that makes this song extreme and flooding with emotion!

The MV was done exceptionally well for many reasons. It really emphasised their dynamic body movements in every routine, and the clean ivory room contrasting with their black silhouettes make it totally eye-catching! However, they seem a bit rusty because, although their dance moves are sharp and striking, it lacks attractiveness as those body waves are less sauve and more stiff. The subtle color changes from red and purple back to clean white really represent passionate lust and feelings of pain mixed with purity. The visionary appeal stays true to this song's concept and sends the listener into a tango-like whirlwind of emotions with its Latin-inspired sound. All these pieces combined makes "Pain" enjoyable as it has the moving message of a ballad but the powerful sounds of hit songs during the golden years of 2010.

In the end, SS501 have released more solid and instantly likable hits but the sounds of "Pain" really grow on you quickly and easily! It is refreshing to see these seniors back on the stage and taking it on with a some new flair and an appealing style! The group seem like a relic in time, which makes them score high as "Pain" gives a nice sense of nostalgia with every listen.
