[Drama Review] 'Cheese In The Trap' - Episode 13

Park Hae Jin, Seo Kang Jun, Lee Sung Kyung, Kim Go Eun
In Ho is and will be forever in pain and seeing him like this will forever break our hearts. Even more so in this episode, I can't help but feel extreme empathy towards In Ho and his unfortunate predicament. This boy just doesn't get any break, just as much as Seol, as his troublesome past is back to haunt him just as he is about walk down the right path.

Thanks to Seo Kang Jun's spectacular performance as In Ho, I am left all teary-eyed towards the end of this episode yet again as he continues to get tortured left and right, unable to handle it on his own. Mind you that In Ho is, like many of us, a young adult who is in his early 20s, just starting out in society or are getting ready to enter the big boy world.

The drama does well in catering to its most dominant audience group: people that are in their early 20s to early 30s, who, just like In Ho, are desperate for connection and affection (even a glimpse of attention).

If the last couple episodes were centered around Yoo Jung and Seol growing together as a couple and as individuals, this episode focuses heavily on In Ho and all the troubles (In Ha, his debt, his unrequited feelings towards Seol, everlasting rivalry against Yoo Jung, and the list goes on...) that he has to carry on his shoulder alone.

Don't get me wrong, I was definitely feeling some type of way last episode when Yoo Jung's side of the story was told. But In Ho's case was on a whole new level of the feels. We already saw that his beginnings weren't that smooth growing up mainly because he was raised by an abusive aunt after being orphaned by his parents. Now, he's feeling as hopeless as ever, seeing one of the few people warming him up, Seol, falling even harder for the person who he believes had ruined his only escape. Life doesn't get any harder than that.

From what we've seen from 'Cheese in the Trap,' they make an extra effort to make their characters, at least their main characters, two dimensional. In Ho gets the same treatment and even just as much screen time as Yoo Jung. In Ho isn't just that misunderstood second lead, but brings out his own story to connect with the viewers. This story is just as much for In Ho's as it is for Seol and Yoo Jung's.

I won't lie though, this episode left me disappointed and feeling uneasy about how Yoo Jung was put off to the side. He is the first lead, after all, and this story is supposed to center around Seol and Yoo Jung's relationship.

As much as we all love and empathize with In Ho, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the main couple overcome their differences and end happily ever after.
