REPLY 1988 - EPISODE 19

For once, a girl doesn't look surprised when the guy kisses her. (Deok Seon and Taek).

We're still in 1994. Sun Woo lays down the law with Bora, outlining exactly what he wants when they're together. Deok Seon meets up with her friends to catch up. Jung Bong and Dad help with housework, because Mom's menopause. Deok Seon waits for Taek to finish his match, we find out the dream kiss was real, and they finally get together. Jung Hwan stages another wedding ceremony for Mom when he sees how depressed she is, and it makes her day.

Deok Seon's dad retires, and the kids celebrate while he grumbles about the attention lavished on him. Sun Woo and Bora's relationship does not sit well with everyone, however, and the moms sport looks of disapproval when they spot the matching rings...

Sun Woo and a beaming Bora

Okay, I was wrong about her hubby (I think). Yeah, yeah. Everyone laugh, cue the goats. I guess I kept thinking it was Jung Hwan, because the adult is so different from Taek, and has a lot of the same characteristics that I would expect to see in our bad boy, and not the game guru. It's not a bad choice, but it does kinda leave Jung Hwan hanging. Who's he supposed to be with? Or does he think his career leaves him no time for dating?

If it is Taek, that explains the interview. I mean, I am jumping to conclusions here, but it's already been established that he's famous. He's well-known to most people into baduk, and they might well be interested in the details of his private life. But he is a private person, and this seems to be Deok Seon's interview, so I'm not sure what's going on. She may have written a book or something. In the TV show 'One Tree Hill,' one of the male leads wrote a book that was autobiographical, and had a movie made out of it, so this could be something similar.

Posing for the wedding photo.

I don't get all the Bora hate. The reactions of his friends are entirely reasonable, especially Dong Ryong, who had no clue for six years! That's a long time to hide a secret. But the moms, I'm not sure what's going on there. First off, that's between him and his family, not between him and the rest of them. Maybe it has something to do with her blunt nature, or perhaps with her protest days? I don't see a problem here. She's wise, and when they were younger she was a veritable Socrates (well, except female and Korean), dispensing wisdom that helped them grow. She's also cute, successful, and charming when given a chance. I presume we'll find out more in the finale.

Jung Hwan probably could have been so much more. While I understand him stepping aside for his friend, it's also pretty infuriating. That's gotta eat away at you, that you're head over heels in love and can't have the object of your desire. I kinda feel for him, though. The guy basically does the right things throughout the entire series. He's a stand-up guy for his parents, he's done tons of little things to help and protect Deok Seon, and he even stands down so his friend can get the girl. I really hope there's a girl waiting for him in the finale.

The moms obviously disapprove of the Bora and Sun Woo OTP

Well now they're wrapping things up, and I like the fact that romances are coming together. Everyone needs someone, and I still think Sun Woo and Bora are a cute couple. I do think Taek is a good choice, too -- it would be funny to see Deok Seon tying his shoelaces in the present, though. There were so many cute moments in this episode that I almost had a feelz overload. See you tomorrow for the finale!
