[Drama Review] 'She Was Pretty' - Episode 14

Siwon, Hwang Jung Eum, Park Seo Joon, Go Jun Hee
If I hated Sung Joon in the last episode, I hated him a bit less in this episode. He's not such a bad guy; he just has really, really bad judgement skills--as he said so himself in this episode--and he doesn't seem to be in tune with how the people around him feel. Still, I'll hold onto this meager ray of hope that somehow Hye Jin will change her mind in the last two episodes and she will end up with Shin Hyuk instead...who am I kidding. That's never going to happen.

OKAY, so before we move on with the main plot, can we discuss the cute romance between Han Seol and Joon Woo??! Their mini four-something minute long drama within a drama nearly had me laughing and crying at the same time. IT WAS JUST TOO CUTE. And the dramatic way Joon Woo ran off when Han Seol coldly told him to go on the blind date while 'A Tale of Two Sisters' OST played in the background was just...precious. They were satirizing all the cheap bathos typical of Korean dramas, and I couldn't help but smile at the cheeky comedy. Glad to see that these two got a happy ending! Now about the happy endings of Hye Jin, Sung Joon, and Shin Hyuk, I'm not so sure...

I don't like you, baka!

You're the baka! *runs away*

Just kidding~ the two bakas lived happily ever after.

The entire episode revolved around 'The Most' staff scrambling to put their 20th anniversary edition together without the interview from Leonard Kim who abruptly canceled on them. One of the staff suggested replacing Leonard Kim's interview with an interview with the elusive author yet acclaimed author, Ten. Of course, Ten refused at first, wishing to preserve his privacy and keep his true identity under wraps. But, as you already know if you have watched the episode, Ten was revealed to be the 'idiot editor' Shin Hyuk. What a twist, eh? Though I'm sure some of you were suspecting it this entire time.

Hey baby.

My little heart just exploded because senpai noticed me.

Shin Hyuk's alter ego as Ten wasn't the only unexpectedly expected plot twist that the writer of 'She Was Pretty' threw in our face. The other big reveal was the inauguration of Jin Sung Group's new VP, who turned out to be the frumpy ahjusshi editor Kim Poong Ho.

So now, with these two big reveals, the drama can't possibly have more curve balls to shock viewers with...or so you'd think. But the question of whether Hye Jin and Sung Joon will really end up together is still up in the air. Sung Joon did propose to Hye Jin but I don't recall Hye Jin giving an answer. I guess since the proposal was so sudden that she wasn't ready to give an assured reply.

Never judge a book by the cover.

And then there is the problem of saving 'The Most's Korean edition. we still don't know whether the interview with Ten--aka Shin Hyuk--will save 'The Most' and beat its competition 'New Look.' With just two more episodes to go, there isn't much time left to devise a plan to save the magazine. If I can gather anything from the despondent, exhausted expression Sung Joon wore all throughout the episode, it is that there is not much he can do for 'The Most' Korea. Hye Jin keeps on telling him that he will think of something but that doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately.

O_O *stares* *imagining myself in Hwang Jung Eum's place*

Oh, I forgot to mention Ha Ri...every episode, the girl seems to be growing more irrelevant. I mean, I like her character and all but now that she is out of the equation of the love square, she doesn't add much to the story. Subsequent her redemption arc, it doesn't appear as though Ha Ri will be going through any more major transformations. The Saturday morning drama involving her family seemed to have wrapped up nicely. In fact, a little too nicely. She made up with both her biological mom and dad, but her stepmother was nowhere to be seen. I guess that means Ha Ri will never come to terms with her stepmother and progress their estranged, abusive relationship?

Well, there still is two more episodes left and you know Korean dramas are famous for cramming in 'The Most' they can in the very last minute.
