YG raises its voice against 'M! Countdown' following the explanation for omitting iKON from the charts

iKON

It had been noted previously that iKON's pre-release track, "My Type," was not counted in 'M! Countdown's weekly music chart, so the program had given the explanation that they did not include songs that were not being promoted unless the agency reached out to the show and they had a discussion over it.  This led to YG Entertainment pointing out this was an insufficient explanation due to the inclusion of Big Bang's track, which was likewise not being promoted.

In response, OSEN reached out to YG Entertainment once again for updates on the situation. The agency said regarding 'M! Countdown's official statement, "There were a lot of parts in 'M! Countdown's process of explaining iKON's omission from the total ranking that were hard to understand.

"However, the more preposterous part of the explanation was 'If the agency wants to request it, we will negotiate with them and include [iKON].' This means that the program has forgotten about being fair.  Even if [iKON] were unable to appear on 'M! Countdown' or receive an award, it makes no sense to negotiate with the broadcasting station regarding a problem like this.  It's something that could never happen no matter what the circumstance.  This is also the strong will of Chief Producer Yang Hyun Suk.

"I've worked in the music industry for 20 years, but their words that they would rank [an artist] after discussion with the company are completely beyond understanding.  The important truth is that YG never had any negotiation [with Mnet's side], but this sort of problem should not even be subject to a negotiation, right?  Then would they also deliberate first place with a company before making a decision on it?"

The rep also revealed that they will figure out if the ranking programs on the three big broadcasting stations (SBS, MBC, and KBS) likewise removed iKON from rankings as randomly as Mnet did before entering into a meeting over countermeasures.

Previously, Mnet had stated, "The 'M! Countdown' music chart is different from the broadcast chart, and only promoted tracks are targeted. This is why iKON's recent track 'My Type' was not in the pool of songs. Artists who don't promote on broadcast or artists who aren't able to perform due to overseas tours will be included after the agency requests it and there's a discussion."
