Things seem to be finally progressing in 'Scholar Who Walks the Night,' and for once--since the first episode anyway--I was absorbed for the entirety of the eighth episode. Just as Crown Prince Lee Yoon and Sung Yeol are about to get a step closer to overthrowing Gwi, their plans just seem to go to crap and blocked every which way. By the end of the episode I felt like strangling someone.�

Yang Sun (YS)�finally gathers enough courage to ask Sung Yeol�(SY) how he feels about her, but the scholar simply toys with the poor girl's heart, violently seizing her wrist and telling her he would gladly spend a "night of pleasure" with her. When YS rejects his advances, he questions her with patronizing incredulity, "You were expecting more from me? Perchance, did you believe that I had feelings for you?" Burn and burn again. Those are scars YS is sure to carry, especially since the scholar was her "first." I'm just as confused about SY's feelings about YS as he is at this point. He wants to be with her, but at the same time he doesn't? I guess a vampire heart is a fickle one.�

Bbangya, bbangya, bbangya!�

Hye Ryeong (HR), who is under the yoke of Gwi thanks to her father, harbors big ambitions to become the next queen. She keeps telling Gwi that he must give her what he promised her which is probably a seat in the palace as the empress. But that begs the question, what did HR promise Gwi in turn? Gwi is not the most charitable of vampires and it is more than likely he applied the rule of quid pro quo and demanded a favor from HR, as well. If I had to make a guess, his favor probably has something to do with killing SY, the bane of his existence.

Crown Prince Lee Yoon (CPY), who had plotted to spread flyers exposing his identity as the son of the deceased Crown Prince Sadong (CPS) and as 'Lustful Student,' is caught in flagrante delicto by his grandfather, the king. It turns out that the king knew his grandson was 'Lustful Student' all along! He was just testing CPY to see if he really had the ability and wits to go up against Gwi. The king didn't want to lose CPY the same way he lost his son CPS; hence, right before CPY came out as 'Lustful Student,' he orders the capture of all the crown prince's underlings including Wae Son�and frames YS as 'Lustful Student.'

I don't know who to be upset at the most: CPY for being so negligent; the king for being so detestably cunning; YS for not leaving for Tamna when she was told to; YS's father for being so obstinately stubborn and not handing over Crown Prince Junghyun's (CPJ); and Gwi for being...well, Gwi. Your pectorals mean nothing to me, Gwi. Nothinngggggggg!

The king, however, doesn't meekly hand over 'Lustful Student' to Gwi right away; instead, he assures the vampire that he has stowed his captor in a safe place so that SY can't attempt to save them. The king then tells Gwi that he will hand over the hostages in two days, using CPY (his grandson, mind you) as collateral.

Something is definitely up here. I think the king has something up his sleeve; elsewise, he wouldn't even have bothered to hide his captives and use his own grandson as ransom with a high possibility of being killed.�Maybe I missed something but I also don't quite get why the king specifically chose YS to be framed as 'Lustful Student.' Maybe it was on Gwi's orders since he has previously tried to lure out SY using YS.
