I was right in my prediction that Sung Yeol wouldn't die on the eighth episode of 'Scholar Who Walks the Night' (brb, having a little celebration at my own genius in predicting Korean drama plots). You'd think nearly dying and being saved by your sort-of-crushing-but-not-100%-sure if-you-really-like love interest would change a man a little but nooooo, not a chance, not the poker-faced and unfeeling 120-year-old vampire. �

So we find out why Sung Yeol (SY) was thrown around like a baseball and beat to a bloody pulp by Gwi in the last episode. His "powers were weakened"�because it was the day before the full moon. I don't quite get why a vampire's powers would deteriorate during the full moon--is it because the moon is simply a reflection of the sun? In any case, it's not a good enough excuse to lose so sorely to your arch nemesis. Maybe SY should think about signing up for a gym membership (am I being too harsh here? Oh, well).

We get another glimpse into the past through Yang Sun's (YS) dad's memories and come upon Crown Prince Lee Yoon's (CPY) childhood friend Jin. In the flashback, Jin looks to be no older than six. His house is being ransacked by the militia but we don't know for what reason. I'm thinking it's because Jin's father plotted with Crown Prince Sadong (CPS) to overthrow Gwi? The mysterious bundle that Jin's father hands to YS's dad could possibly contain Crown Prince Junghyun's (CPJ) diary. Another important point to note is that YS's father is asked to look after Jin. So where is Jin now? Could YS be Jin? *Cue dramatic music*

SY poses as the pretend 'Lustful Student' (LS) and leaves a hefty amount of coin in the houses of the deceased book peddlers' homes. With this clever tactic, SY aims to lift the negative image of LS and battle Gwi's ploy to make LS public enemy number one.�

SY steals Wae Son (WS), who was being held captive by CPY, right from under the noses of CPY's guards and brings him under his wing. I almost shouted out for joy because we're now a baby step closer to finally figuring out how to kill that thrice-damned son of a gun called Gwi (though I'm sure the viewers will miss sighing over his firm pectorals). Through the one-handed bookseller, SY learns that there were five names in CPJ's diary--including his which he already knew thanks to CPS--and that on the last page was a will written by CPJ for the sole viewing of SY. Then WS admits that he has no idea where CPJ's diary is . . . Alright, scratch what I said earlier because we are NOWHERE closer to a Gwi-free world.

By happenstance SY comes across Hye Ryeong (his reincarnated love Myung Hee) at the marketplace, but this time he doesn't go all spastic and delirious grabbing and hugging her. Instead he opts her a less creepy route: stalking.
CPY plans to come forth as LS, reasoning that no more innocent can die and that he will persuade the public somehow. Once he wins over their hearts, he believes the person with CPS's diary will come forward of his own accord. Meanwhile, SY resolves to back his homie LS all the way and make people believe that there is indeed a evil vampire living in their wake. Just like CPY he has a grand scheme, and that is to reveal his identity as a vampire.

I don't know how to feel about both CPY's and SY's plans because they still haven't found CPJ's diary. Soo Hyang expressed her concern that many more people will die and for once, I agree with the woman. But SY was dismissive and said he'll take the risk anyway and save everyone. Oh, please. You could barely save yourself against Gwi.
SY, you better not regret what you said in the next episode.�
