[AKP Travel] Clubgoers' must-visit hotspots in Korea

This continues our[AKP Travel]series, you can check out our first postfor a date in Insadong here.

Hongdae

This is the ultimate hipster area of Seoul. Go here to see young Korean trends and fashion at its finest. Hongdae is like a college campus, because there are several big universities around the area. Everything in Hongdae is cheap, and there are more bars and clubs than I can count. It's always crowded, and the street vendors/local restaurants stay open 24 hours.

NB2 (Noise Basement)

One of the representative hip-hop clubs in Korea. You can find diverse ethnicities in this club who are just as into hip-hop as you are. It is highly recommended that you go on a weekday if you easily get claustrophobic as the club gets insanely crowded on weekends. Another reason why the club is popular is because it is owned and operated by the CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk. 'NB2' is where you can enjoy diverse hip hop music from the 90's to recent electronic hip-hop. A shower system is installed in the ceilings for unique water parties.

As for the dress code, slippers, jogging suits, and formal suits are not allowed. Free entrance before 11pm and the price goes up to around $15 after 12AM.

Insum

Currently one of the hottest bar and lounges in Hongdae, 'Club Insum' holds tempting free-events such as 'unlimited tequila for women only.' The price is on the cheaper and more reasonable side compared to others and it's definitely not crowded either. If you are looking for a comfortable night out with your friends and buddies, 'Club Insum' is a spot that will provide you with all the ingredients for a perfect freaky Friday (or even thirsty Thursday).

Club Vera

With fantastic lighting, laser, LED, and sound system, "Club Vera" is a duplex-type space with fancy dance floor and luxurious rooms for VVIP. From Wednesday to Friday, Vera runs the best parties. The club is also known to hold unique themed events such as a "School Uniform Event" where hosts and waitresses are seen wearing adorable, but still edgy, school uniforms and handing out old school snacks throughout the night.

Gangnam

Gangnam is the main district for Seoul's luxurious and posh nightclubs that are multi-leveled with massive dance floors and top-notch sound systems. Gangnam is compared to the "Beverly Hills" of Seoul with its wealth and fashion. Basically, this is where all of the celebrities and rich folks hang out and spend ridiculous amounts of money, but it's also trending for young 20-somethings who want to party all night.

Club Octagon

One of the hottest clubs in Seoul, Korea. Located in Gangnam, it's known to feature popular local and international EDM DJs. Currently the 9th best club in the world by DJ Mag.

The first floor of Octagon spreads out from the DJ stage to the VIP tables and the bar in the back. The upper level is only accessible for VIP tables, and there is a nice balcony that looks over the entire club. There are frequently big-name international DJs on weekends such as Dash Berlin, Laidback Luke, Deniz Koyu, etc. If you're into the EDM scene and some hardcore dancing, Club Octagon is a must.

Answer

Club Answer is a three-story luxury club that includes a stage on the first floor, VIP tables on the second floor with an overlooking balcony, and private rooms on the third floor. According to heavy clubgoers, Answer is where all the rich socialites and celebrities go to party. There were even rumors that Big Bang's G-Dragon and Taeyang were spotted entering the club.

When planning to make a trip to 'Answer,' make sure you are dressed in impress as they are known to have a strict dress-code and won't accept those who are dressed too casually. The powerful sound system inside Answer is one of the best in Seoul.

Itaewon

Itaewon is the foreigner district of Seoul, but it's also trending for young to middle-aged Koreans. The place is infested with bars, lounges, American-inspired pubs and nightclubs that stay open all night long. Most of the bars and clubs are located directly behind Hamilton hotel. Normally Itaewon is filled with exciting nightlife places where you can kick back and sip on that cup of beer.

Cake Shop

Cake Shop is the definition of an underground club. Well-known local DJ's come to this underground club to play future house, techno, disco, hip hop, R&B hits and all other underground music. The capacity is about 200 people and there is a large dance floor. The venue isn't big, but you can expect to meet some cool cats to mingle with every time you visit.

B1

Club B1 is an underground lounge club and is also the biggest club in Itaewon. Legend says that B1 was the club that created the lounge culture in Korean club history. The club includes several different rooms, multiple DJs and dance floors, luxurious interior and lighting to fit their new concept of 'castle basement.' The music is a mixture of deep house, dance hits and underground electronic music.

There will always be a long line every night of the week so make sure you go early. If you only have one night to party in Itaewon, then B1 would be the club that you won't want to miss.

Gold Bar

Gold bar has a similar atmosphere as the ones you see around colleges in America. It's rowdy, grimy, but filled with young and energetic company. There is a good mix of foreigners and local Koreans and the DJ manages to sneak in throwback jams to his hit playlists. The throwback tracks also include music videos.
