PETA's Angora Rabbit video angers netizens

Buzz

A recent video campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia Pacific has been angering netizens as it makes its rounds on the Internet.

Animal rights activist group PETA released their newest video tackling the fur industry. Taking place in Myeong-dong, Seoul, the video shows a figure dressed in a somber-looking rabbit costume wandering the streets. As it continues to walk, it suddenly lunges out at random pedestrians, pulling sharply at their hair and causing them to shout out in pain. His oblivious victims are doing pretty mundane things, such as walking down the sidewalk, chatting with friends, and playing around on their phones. As people begin to express their bewilderment at being targeted and bullied by this strange figure, a question pops up on the screen: "Would you find this painful?" The video then cuts away to a clip of an angora rabbit squealing as its fur is shorn off its body for angora products.

While PETA made this video to spread an anti-fur message, it seems that the video is eliciting the exact opposite sentiments. Netizens are expressing their anger at the video, making comments such as, "What is this foolishness," "You PETA guys just hate all of the people in the world," and, "If [it] grabbed my hair, I would have called the police and turned him in as a criminal." One netizen even commented, "Honestly this [video] is a promotion for angora products.

What do you think of the video? Do you think this video is too extreme?
