3. 5 Seasons

6. Confusing

How can you tell it's summer? In the Northern Hemisphere, they're breaking out the sun tan lotion and heading to the beach. In the Southern Hemisphere people are waxing up their skis. And in the K-pop world, everyone's rushing to put out an album. After defying expectations with 'EXITO' (not to mention their first seasonal single 'Snow Kiss'), TEEN TOP has dropped their newest mini-album, 'Natural Born Teen Top.'

The disc starts out with "HOT LIKE FIRE," a definitive club-banger characterized by an insistent synth line. In case the tempo didn't tip you off, C.A.P. slays it in the opening rap. Dubstep rhythms in this track help your feet to start dancing. And the playful "welcome to L.Joe airline" lets you know that it's meant as a light-hearted offering. An exciting starter track, indeed.

After the frenetic first track, the boys take us down slowly with the smooth "ah-ah." Buoyed by silky vocals and kickin' raps, this Black-Eyed Pilseung tune is an ode -- as you might expect -- to a girl. The boys don't even want to fall asleep because they enjoy watching her. Danceable and catchy, it's a worthy track to promote with.

"5 Seasons" is much more of a soft rock tune, driven as it is by an acoustic guitar and the occasional horn. The conceit of this song is that there are not just four seasons, but five,"Spring, summer, autumn and winter and you," and the girl is in his head everywhere, inescapable like a season. I like the concept, and the song is easy on the ears.

"Please" starts with a whistling synth line and the English fail "Oh please don't take the phone." It makes sense, weirdly, as you might want to jack someone's mobile (if you're shady), but what they really mean is "don't take the call." Their rival uses flattery and candy to lure the girl away, and he doesn't love her like they do. I haven't heard this take on the concept before, and the fact that the boys helped pen this is pretty cool. Like B2ST's "Shock," good song -- bad grammar.

The way "I Love It" starts, it sounds almost naughty. It's a stripped down tune, and it works well, from the whispered spoken word intro to the time-changes in the bridge and chorus. Nice hooks add to a serviceable dance tune. It's probably not a stretch to say you can figure out what they love.

"Confusing" is helped along by an electric guitar riff. They're confused by how the girl acts, hot and cold love. This track is a solid soft rock single -- smooth, earnest, and mid-tempo, and a sweet closer to the album.

"Natural Born Teen Top" is full of accessible summer sizzlers. L.Joe and C.A.P.'s impish raps plus sleek vocal work by Chunji, Niel, Ricky and Changjo help make this album pop. The boys even contributed lyrics to "5 Seasons" and "Please." So what are you doing still reading this? Go check it out!
