Originally signed with JYP Entertainment, rapper San E left the company in 2013, cranking out two mini-albums and a string of accessible and successful singles. Now, he's dropped his first full-length album, 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf.'

The standout track on here is "Me You," with Baek Ye Rin of 15&. I liked this before it hit all-kill status, and I thought it to be quite good. I've raved previously about Ye Rin's vocal abilities, particularly on 15&'s debut release. "Me You" is the odd bird on this album, standing out like a goldfish in a bowl of punch.

The rest of the album is less than stellar. My problem is that nearly every song on here is just dreary. Either he's going through the motions or he's trying to tell an emotional story in a depressed tone. His normally sharp timbre is practically monotone, and his flow is uneven. There is little beat, sometimes odd vocal choices as accompaniment, and almost no instrumentation. Why am I not going through this LP track by track? That's the reason. Each song suffers from the exact same flaws.

To prove my point, listen to any of the tracks on the album and compare it to the other singles he's released. "Tasty San" was a heckuva lot of fun and the video was hilarious. Previous songs such as "Break Up Dinner," "Body Language," and "Story of Someone I Know" are all good tunes. They all have sick beats, at least a stab at a melody, great hooks, and they quite frankly pop. 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' seems to lack any of the essential qualities that make those tracks great and, indeed, eschews them entirely. As always, YMMV.

When I first downloaded this, I was pretty stoked. I was hoping for tracks like the ones I mentioned, as well as something similar to "A Midsummer Night's Sweetness," the song he did with Raina from After School. It makes no sense to me because the artists he collaborates with on this disc are top-notch talent. I was let down by this tepid release. Here's hoping for a stronger comeback next album!
