After a false rumor made the rounds on the Internet, singer Rain reported the instigators of the rumor to the Gangnam Police Station on charges of libel and defamation, 'Entertainment Relay' reported.

A netizen had released a photo of a naked man online recently, claiming that it was a photo of Rain that was taken from the phone of his girlfriend, Kim Tae Hee. This picture, along with the description, spread like lightning on the Internet.

"Rain received a notice from his agency on the 13th, saying that there was a malicious rumor spreading on the Internet," his lawyer said. "Looking into the case, we discovered that they had no bearing on the truth. We decided that these rumors were of a malicious nature, and filed a criminal complaint on the basis of spreading false information and defamation."

"Including the original source, we reported approximately 20~30 people," they said. "If the case becomes clear that libel was the intent, the punishment can range from up to seven years in prison or 50 million won in fines."

"We plan to crack down hard against this rumor," they said. "We will monitor the situation closely before we decide to have leniency or not."
