On November 7, the Daeju District Court announced that they sentenced a 22-year-old Mr. Jung to 15 years in jail for murdering his two-year-old son.

Mr. Jung is believed to have murdered his son back in March because of his son's cries annoyed him and prevented him from going out to a PC bang (Internet cafe / LAN gaming center) to play games. Allegedly, he hit the child in the stomach, then covered his son's nose and mouth and smothered him to death. Mr. Jung was also charged for leaving his son's corpse alone for a month, before throwing it away in a garbage bag on the side of the streets.

Mr. Jung is also charged with neglecting to properly nurture and raise his son. As Mr. Jung has not paid his utility bills, the apartment didn't have heat or electricity. Furthermore, Mr. Jung is accused of not feeding the child properly, leaving him to starve instead. Mr. Jung also left the child alone at home six times in order to go to the PC bang to play games.

The Department of Justice has commented, "The accused [Mr. Jung] murdered his son and after three hours went to the PC bang to play games all night, neglected the corpse in the apartment for a lengthy time. When he eventually removed the corpse, he carried it in a bag and took the elevator with a calm mindset; this is incomprehensible behavior that an ordinary citizen would have a difficult time understanding." They continued, "Because we see that the young victim was cold and hungry for a considerable period of time, and that in his loneliness, he endured difficult, severe abuse and received psychological pain, we made a harsh judgment."

Mr. Jung's lawyer, on the other hand, has stated, "If the judgment was made based on the autopsy report, then there is no evidence that the accused murdered [the victim] directly."  

Netizens have commented that the jail sentence is not severe enough, with comments saying, "Only 15 years? Does that make sense? Doesn't this [warrant] a death sentence?", "If the parents have no ability [to raise/support the child] then it's better they don't have any [children] at all," and, "Ilbe trash bag father."
