Of course, with the ton of talented vocalists out there and the immense respect K-Pop in general has for Western music, there is no surprise that there is a plethora of idols covering American music. So why not compile some of the most amazing, jaw-dropping covers that send shivers down your spines for an earwormy good time?
Check out the ten below--and these idols have many more covers that you should likewise check out!
LEDApple's Hanbyul - Bruno Mars's "Gorilla"
This is just one of many awesome covers by LEDApple's talented vocalist Hanbyul, who sounds like he could go on 'Hidden Singer' as a Bruno Mars impersonator. Seriously, I just went back and forth between Hanbyul's covers and Bruno Mars's original versions and my friend could not tell the difference. Rather, she was all, "MINDBLOWN."
ZE:A's Kevin - Pussycat Dolls' "Stickwithu"
The sweet and soothing vocals, not to mention the impressive range, of ZE:A's Kevin will have you melting into a puddle. That falsetto! You can check out his cover of Adam Levine's "Lost Stars" here. He usually does a cover on Arirang's 'Hot Beat' radio program if you just can't get enough!
Ailee - Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"
She's proven herself as a powerhouse vocalist over and over again. Through this emotional cover of Whitney Houston's classic "I Will Always Love You," Ailee captivates the audience--they're riveted and are undoubtedly thinking, "Yes, I believe you. I love you, too."
Eric Nam & SPICA's Boa - A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something"
This is a haunting duet by talented singers Eric Nam and SPICA's Boa. They effortlessly ease their soothing vocals into the light yet poignant feeling of the song. Not to mention, their voices work very well together and they put enough power behind each word without making it overbearing as the song warrants a more delicate sound.
SISTAR's Hyorin - Christina Aguilera's "Hurt"
Her deep, husky voice suits the song in her audition for Starship Entertainment. In addition, she has the passion and power behind each note she belts out, but can instantly go for a softer sound as soon as the song warrants it, showing her versatility as a singer.
A Pink's Eunji - Whitney Houston's "Run To You"
Perfect consistency, control, and technique is displayed in Eunji's soothing rendition of another Whitney Houston classic. Although she is known to be an incredible singer, I think she is still somewhat underrated. Listen to the depth of her voice, the perfect hit of every note with ease... There is very little strain in her vocals. This was a very artistic cover, so kudos!
CNBLUE's Yonghwa - Maroon 5's "Payphone"
His voice sounds so beautifully clear in this cover! Despite having to sing in a different language, he does not seem like he's having a hard time at all--rather, he seems to be enjoying himself. What a natural. He hits the high notes with a very natural falsetto that doesn't sound strained and he sings with an impressive ease that, in turn, puts the listeners at ease.
EXO's D.O - Travie McCoy's "Billionaire (Feat. Bruno Mars)"
Sadly this cover is short, but D.O's smooth and soothing vocals are great! Not to mention, the other members pipe in for the harmony, which is really nice to hear. It's a lighthearted cover that should not be missed.
Girls' Generation's Tiffany - Ariana Grande's "The Way"
Personally, I find Tiffany an underrated singer in Girls' Generation. She has the perfect voice to cover this song; it's lilting and sassy with a 'tude that makes her singing something special. Her voice is also very pretty and light with good range, and she has the perfect balance of power and relaxed flow.
B2ST's Yoseob - Eric Benet's "Close Your Eyes"
Talented vocalist Yoseob wows with this impressive cover. His lilting and soothing voice is like a cradle rocking you to sleep so you can have beautiful dreams. There's nothing very powerful about this cover (at least not in impact or dynamic), but that's the point--he captures and expresses softer emotions for a more poignant listening, so that it's powerful in an entirely different way.
