GABDONGI EPISODE 18

Recap:
Maria informs Tae Oh that she'll help him, but only if "you agree to pay the price for your crimes."� The police get ready to bring Section Chief Cha to trial. Mu Yeom brings the section chief and Tae Oh together for a meeting between the two Gab Dongs to gain information. Tae Oh prevaricates, appearing to help Mu Yeom in one instance and the section chief the next. Ji Wool visits Tae Oh�and attempts to shame him -- it appears to work. At his�trial, Section Chief Cha goes nuts, leaping to his feet and snarling, "Yeah, I am the real Gab Dong!" �He also claims that one of his personalities is a lackey that does what he wants and staggers drunkenly after his fit ends.

The med professionals diagnose Section Chief Cha with multiple personality disorder, but there is something in his testimony that bugs Maria: he called himself Gab Dong before the second woman died, yet the name was not given by the police until the 3rd murder. He's lying. Tae Oh leaves a comment on Cha's fishing blog and they carry on a mini dialog in the comment section. Cha tells him to commit the 9th murder. Ji Wool visits�Tae Oh, who sports a new haircut and a bouquet of flowers. Tae Oh texts Maria, telling her to come and hang out with him and Ji Wool. That's when we see Ji Wool, tied up to a tree and crying. Mu Yeom confronts Cha and goads the Gab Dong personality, reaching for his gun. Cha tackles Mu�Yeom, grabs the gun, and levels it at our hero...

My take:
Can I call it or can I call it? Ji Wool is now tied to a tree. Nice. I really didn't want her dead, but I had a feeling that if she hung around Tae Oh and Section Chief Cha, she would end up dead. Her attraction to serial killers is her undoing and she doesn't have the same protections from her psyche like Maria has. Maria maybe be a damaged chick, but she's learned to put up at least a few walls to protect herself. Ji Wool knows little of the world and wants to see the good in everyone. Can't do that when you're dead...

Apparently, the writers want us to think that all serial killers are bundles of rage with dissociative disorder. Section Chief Cha, when confronted about his Gab Dongi-ness, goes nuts and yells,�"I'm Gab Dong!" You could almost imagine him in a competition with Tae Oh for who's the wildest crazy, except I think this round still goes to Tae Oh. Lee Joon has the rage down to an art form as I already stated in a previous review. Cha does try really hard, however.�

Maria is scaring me. Last episode she fantasized about dousing Section Chief Cha with gas and setting him afire. This episode, she directly confronts him and tells him to get used to looking over his shoulder because one day she'll be there and he'll be dead. Brrr... While I like the fact that she's toughened up again (a necessary art when dealing with killers), it seems like contact with psychos has turned her into one. I know she's eager to put the nightmare behind her, but still.

I'm not sure what plan Mu Yeom and Chul Geon have. I don't see much in his plan to protect�Maria and Ji Wool�since, even if you can track the killers, you can't be in two places at once and it seems, for the moment, Maria and Ji Wool are singularly vulnerable. I'm hoping there's more to Mu Yeom's plan than getting killed by a serial killer.

This is interesting. We're down to the last two episodes and it hasn't lost momentum yet. I want to find out what happens to Tae Oh and Section Chief Cha. How are they going to take them down? Is there redemption for Tae Oh? Or does that peace only come to him in death? And does a similar fate await Section Chief Cha? Stay with me to find out!
