ANGEL EYES EPISODE 19
Recap:
As we saw last episode, Soo Wan bids a sleeping Dong Joo good-bye and walks out the door. When he awakens, it's daylight and Soo Wan is nowhere to be found. A flash backwards and we see life as it should have gone for the pair if Jung Hwa had never been hit by Ji Woon. Ji Woon visits his mother in jail. Woo Chul is reinstated as a traffic cop. Later, after seeing Soo Wan in a picture for one of the island villages on the isle of Wolmido, he gets Dong Joo to volunteer there. We see Soo Wan working there as the "119 unni," getting on well with the residents. While on volunteer duty, Dong Joo is called to help deliver a baby and Soo Wan is there, as well. They have it out and she tells him to just leave. The ahjussi that Soo Wan is renting a room from tells Dong Joo how the fishing there is great. Soo Wan, hearing that Dong Joo has departed, races to the boat launch and calls after him. Jin Mo overhears Hye Joo and Teddy talking about how Jin Mo's mother is dead, and the news hurts and shocks him. A famous actress shows up at the hospital, and sets her sights on Dong Joo... �
My Take:
I loved the flashback, even though I was completely confused at the start of it (like, why were we seeing it?). Ji Woon misses Jung Hwa with his car, Soo Wan gets implants from another patient, our couple end up at the same university, he becomes a firefighter and she a doctor, Ji Woon and Dong Joo are good friends, and Dong Joo and Soo Wan get married. We flash forward again and Dong Joo is reading the note Soo Wan left, talking about how if things had gone well, it wouldn't have been so painful and that she needs to find herself. There were charming scenes of them as teens, living a relatively normal life, laughing and teasing each other in that easy way they have. We see a lot of them as teens again and Jung Hwa even appears in more than a couple of scenes. It almost made me wish that was the way the story had gone.
The idyllic island of Wolmido
I've talked about it before, but running away is a really bad way to solve a problem. It doesn't make the problem go away and sometimes, that problem chases right along behind you. You might be able to evade it for a little, but it will still dog you. In my opinion, that's what Soo Wan is doing. Finding herself? For how long? The episode seemed to indicate a year had gone by with no word from her about how she was doing or even if she were still alive. Our lives are painful, so your life will be better off without me in it. I've heard that before. I just figure I'd rather be with someone that I love than not, no matter what we have to go through.
Jin Mo's revelation is pretty sad, but I expected it sooner or later. I just wasn't sure it would happen in the context of the series. There are ways of explaining death to one that young without lying to them. While I like Woon Chan, I think he really screwed up here. The boy was bound to learn the truth sooner or later. I don't blame Hye Joo or Teddy for this despite the fact they let it slip. The blame lands squarely on Woon Chan's shoulders. �

I think if there's a theme for this episode, it's don't go to sleep. Bad things happen when you sleep. For example, your girlfriend leaves you and you learn your mom is really dead. It is a curious synchronicity, but they've done that before, too, where the writers find a theme and milk it for all it's worth. I can't help but think that these things would have happened anyway, but it's funny to think that when they woke up, their worlds were turned upside down. �
Wow. We have one episode left. I'm already sad, mainly because I don't know if these two will get back together. That seems to be what it's getting at, but again we don't know. This drama is extremely makjang�and it's entirely possible one or the other could die as soon as they are back together (like�Stairway to Heaven.). Here's hoping they make it! Your thoughts?
