ANGEL EYES EPISODE 15

When we last left our couple, Soo Wan happened upon Dong Joo haranguing Director Yoon about his crime and overheard what Director Yoon did to Jung Hwa. Min Soo tries to comfort her, but Soo Wan walks off like a zombie. She goes through her routine like this and finally confronts her father about it. When she walks out on him, her father collapses. Dong Joo, looking for Soo Wan, finds Director Yoon, and takes him to the OR. Soo Wan cannot be found and is hiding out at their intended home. She makes a decision to leave Dong Joo. He takes her to the church where his mother went during tough times and Soo Wan hands him back her engagement ring...

And I guess I don't quite get it. My mouth was open from the time Soo Wan talked about letting Dong Joo go to the end of the episode (which made my outh quite dry despite the tears flooding in). I've never understood the whole "I'm leaving you so you don't feel further pain" thing. To me, it's a cop-out. Even if the knowledge that Jung Hwa was killed for her were painful, there's nothing she can do to change that. Understand that her last request was granted, she's gone (and has been gone for over a decade), and if you leave for America, at least you won't have dad around as a reminder. I can totally understand needing time to process this, but I would think that you could draw strength from your relationship, not push someone away.

"I can't accept this ring."

Ji Woon manages to consistently surprise me and he does this episode by being cast as the nice guy - the way he talks to Min Sooand even tries to cheer Dong Joo up, although he fails at the latter. He does a really good job at playing the great guy who's there for you and I think that was why the love triangle worked well. The scene with Dong Joo was well done because even though they've been cast as enemies and rivals, I think Ji Woon still cares about Dong Joo in spite of himself.

I have to give Soo Wan credit here. In most dramas the characters go out and drink when they are depressed. Soo Wan does not seek the bottle, though she does go off by herself and cry. Again, the part where she gives the ring back to Dong Joo in the church was particularly powerful and had me tearing up.

We have just about all the pieces of the hit and run accident too. Min Soo and Woo Chul figure out the Kang family, Ji Woon and Young Ji, are the ones trying to cover it up -- they're the only ones with enough influence to get even the Chief of Police in on the conspiracy. Min Soo investigates the junkyard and finds the involved car, which was never scrapped; instead, it has been repainted and is still being driven.

Ji Woon and Min Soo seem to be getting along pretty well and this episode has them talking to each other on a more personal level about more personal things. They both like the fact that they're honest with each other and this could be the way they both end up happy, I think. It's a perfect plot device to close 'Angel Eyes' on a happy note. Young Ji does not fail to notice them together and is suspicious, I think, since the investigation is heating up.

Teddy is still going after Hye Joo. After three ne'er-do-wells make a bet as to whether they can pull off a 119 call, they are confronted by Hye Jooand get in a fight with Teddy and Woon Chan. After again seeing Hye Joo throw herself at his sunbae, Teddy just shakes his head and says, "She picks her men well, I'm not trustworthy." His antics, while cute, still have me wishing Woon Chan would just smack him in the head and tell him to ask Hye Joo out.

"But Chief...We're all on the same team here."

And now Director Yoon's disease has caught up with him: congenital heart failure. The surgery was interesting because they kept pushing the idea that Dong Joo, the surgeon, hated Director Yoon andthere was a conflict of interest. If Director Yoon died, I guess it could be argued that he was knowingly killed by Dong Joo. The fact that not even Dong Joo knew if he did his best or not struck me. Was he thinking that he subconsciously botched it since Director Yoon is in a coma?

This episode was pretty grim. The only amusing part wasTeddy and the delinquents and that was a small part that didn't serve to lighten the mood as much as I would have wanted. I can only hope that, during the next episode, I won't need so many tissues.
