TRIANGLE EPISODE 4

I wanted them to really ramp up the action, change things up, and they seriously did. We have not one but several fight scenes, and quite a few interesting developments as well.

We open with Jung Hee and Young Dal fleeing the casino. Unable to entirely evade his pursuers, Young Dal unleashes some mad martial arts skills and puts them down. It is to no avail because he is stabbed, and he calls Dong Soo.

Young Dal finally runs into problems due to the money he stole. I was waiting for that. He not only gets the tar beaten out of him, he gets waylaid 3 times, tortured, and finally plays into the hands of Chairman Go. Not only that, while Dong Soo is questioning him, he literally puts a gun to his head when Young Dal is not forthcoming. What's interesting is that Shin Hye was not able to determine that he was lying. Young Dal is no idiot; he figures that to survive, he needs an ally in Dong Soo.

Dong Soo continues his confessions in treatment. There are heart-wrenching scenes of the brothers as children. They were sent to an orphanage, and Dong Soo stole to survive. When the police were after him, he left the orphanage, but when he came back, the youngest had been adopted and the other had run away. Dong Soo is haunted by guilt because he could not protect his brothers, and has been trying to find them the whole time he's been a detective. Well, it appears he's finally found one: Young Dal. And Dong Joo rushes to Young Dal's aid when he hears he's been assaulted a second time.

The more I see of Dong Soo, the more abrasive he appears to be. Pulling a gun on Young Dal, and yelling at his team to straighten up after they've had the stuffing beaten out of them; I'm not sure that guilt would do that. It just appears there's a disconnect between him and other people. That would explain the lack of a girlfriend and a social life other than his colleagues at work.

Yang Ha is driven out to Sabuk and shown the site for a resort to be constructed just outside the town. He assesses it as too risky, and his father replies that casino mogul Sheldon Adelson won his riches through risky investments. Yang Ha takes his father to task not only regarding how he was raised but also that he will not use reckless methods to win. Yang Ha resents being groomed for anything, and more than likely is eager to prove himself and forge his own destiny. It doesn't look like he's going to let anything get in the way of that, but how far will he go to make this happen?

There are twists and turns as the gang wars heat up. Madame Jang had her casino closed down by law enforcement. Who ratted her out? None other than the owner of a local pawnshop, who married to a high profile criminal and is untouchable. Madame Jang confronts her, gets slapped, and looks as if she's contemplating revenge. Chairman Go has allied himself with some thoroughly unpleasant people, the same people who kidnapped and tortured Young Dal and apparently killed the internet gambling operator, Gi Chan.

Okay, okay, I admit. It got better. I don't need breakneck action all the time, but I want something to happen. Once the players are introduced and conflicts are set up, don't just slowly inch them out of the gate -- let them loose!  Now I can't wait for the next episode!
