ANGEL EYES EPISODE 6

The secret is out. The boy Soo Wan loved 12 years ago, Dong Joo, is back, masquerading as Dylan Park.

Through a simple interjection by a patient who happens to be his former homeroom teacher, Dylan Park now stands revealed as Dong Joo. Before Soo Wan can say anything, her fever gets the better of her and she collapses.

Dong Joo goes to the rooftop to clear his head. Soo Wan shows up, and we see them walking to a place where they spent time together as teens. An exchange between them brings a slap from her, a visit to Jung Hwa's gravesite, and tears fromSoo Wan.

Walking with Soo Wan, Dong Joo again dismisses her, saying he was too busy to think about the past, and the past was too painful to think about anyway. All he did was bury the memories, he claims. Then he tells her to go inside and rest.

Dong Joo recalls a very recent conversation with Soo Wan's father, Director Yoon. We learn several things from this scene: Soo Wan can never know that she received her eyes from Jung Hwa, who was like a real mother to her; Dong Joo missed Soo Wan, he couldn't forget her; Director Yoon doesn't feel the romance between Soo Wan and Dong Joo was real, and wants Dong Joo to leave her alone; andDong Joo truly means a lot to the director, like a son to a father.

Min Soo looks into the hit-and-run accident that killed Jung Hwa. She connects the dots: Dylan Park asked about the hit and run, Dong Joo's name is listed as next of kin, Dong Joo is the one that Soo Wan is so hung up over. Min Soo accosts Dong Joo at the hospital, getting his attention by calling him by his real name, and then punching him in the jaw. They talk a bit about Soo Wan and the hit and run.

Ji Woon takes Soo Wan out to eat and gives her a pendant. He hopes that because she still wears the whistle Dong Joo gave her so long ago, this pendant will make her think of him rather than Dong Joo.

Min Soo visits former detective Woo Chuland finds him collapsed on the floor. She calls Dong Joo and asks him to make a house call. When Woo Chul revives, Dong Joo says that because he trusted Woo Chul with the hit and run accident, it helped him move on. Woo Chul is grateful to hear it and is glad that Dong Joo did so well for himself. Later, Dong Joo buys Woo Chul some porridge and the two men bond over a meal.

Director Yoon wants Dong Joo to go back to Boston. He even arranges a plane ticket, and a phone call ensures that Dong Joo will have a job to go back to when he gets there. Dong Joo asks if he can stay, just six months...he likes working by his father's side and really likes seeing Soo Wan again.

Soo Wanencounters Dong Jooagain andasks himwhy he didn't say hello. He replies that she was different from how he remembered her. He again trashes his memories, lying to her. He even says he didn't want to run into her again. She confesses that all her memories of that time were precious, that she didn't forget for even a moment. He tells her to forget so they can live their lives. He tells her he's Dylan Park now, a different man, and he wants to forget everything. He gives a great performance, he practically spits the words, sounding angry. He does not yell, it's a more subtle exchange. He leaves her crying. Riding away, he asks his mom if he's doing the right thing.

Dong Joo gets his affairs in order; he plays basketball with Ji Woon one last time, and tells Jung Hwa that he has to go. He asks that she protect Soo Wan and not him.

Director Yoon gets a cryptic call from Doctor Choi, whom we see in flashback watching Director Yoon removing Jung Hwa's oxygen mask and her suddenly flatlining. Choi asks if he's thought about it at all. Director Yoon remembers doing the same thing for another woman (presumably his wife), who died.

Soo Wan is at the hospital and hears that Dong Joo is heading back to the U.S. After a fruitless search at the airport, she panics and blows the whistle that she still wears around her neck. She harangues him; he promised not to disappear without her permission, and yet he's doing it again.

We flash back to her trip to the airport, listening to the mp3 player Dong Joo left at his mother's gravesite with the knowledge that she'd find it. She listens to his recorded diary entries intended for her: "I graduated today," and "Everything I said today was a lie...there was only one thing I wanted to say to you: I missed you, Yoon Soo Wan."

He pulls her to him and holds her they way both of them wanted for the last 12 years.

I was wondering about this. How would Soo Wan react when she found out who Dylan Park really was? Angry, hurt, and frustrated because he kept pushing her away. And now he intended to disappear without a word again. To be fair, he did leave a note the first time, but that was hidden from her by her father.

I'm still not entirely sure why Director Yoon wants Dong Joo gone. It's obvious Yoon doesn't take their youthful romance seriously. But if Dong Joo is so much like a son to him, why push him away? Perhaps he feels that this arranged marriage to Ji Woon is a better deal? Or maybe the director feels trapped and there might be career repercussions if he backs out of the arrangement? Certainly Ji Woon's mother is calculating and not altogether nice, but I would think she'd be happy; she doesn't approve of Soo Wan anyway.

The writers like to make Soo Wan cry, so she will likely find out that she has Jung Hwa's eyes. I should start a pool. How long do you think it will take? I give it til episode 9, tops.

I'm really curious about the arrangement between Dr. Choi and Director Yoon. It sounds like blackmail, but we haven't heard enough to tell. And as the detective is getting more and more screen time, I'm thinking he will figure out who was responsible for the hit and run. I'm glad Dong Joo has taken an interest in him. Maybe Dong Joo's trust will mean redemption for Woo Chul.

What we don't know is whether Dong Joo will treat Soo Wan with more regard now. He can't leave, since that would pretty well end the series. I got tired of him being a jerk, that got pretty old fairly fast. Since the writers have made us care, we don't want to see our hero or heroine hurting each other. I can't wait til Ji Woon finds out about Soo Wan and Dong Joo.

What do you guys think? Obviously, Dong Joo is meant to be our leading man, but what do you think about our second lead Ji Woon? Who do you like better? I think there's more chemistry between Dong Joo and Soo Wan, but you might think differently. Anyone think Ji Woon is better for her? Anyone got the second lead syndrome?
