Girl group Rainbow member Yoonhye's cousin recently appeared on the latest broadcast of Mnet's 'Superstar K4'.
The contestant introduced himself as Roy Kim (20, real name Kim Sang Woo) and revealed himself to be a future student at Georgetown University as well as the son of a famous makgeolli (Korean rice wine) brand CEO. In addition, netizens were able to dig up more background information as it turned out that he's also cousins with Rainbow's Yoonhye.
A representative of DSP Media spoke with Star News on the 18th, stating, "It is true that Roy Kim and Yoonhye are related. We don't want to go into details regarding [his father's] company. Yoonhye is also reluctant to discuss her uncle."
On the day of the broadcast, Yoonhye had left a message of support for her cousin via Twitter, stating, "My cousin is auditioning for 'Superstar K4'~ Roy Kim^^ He's been studying abroad, so it's my first time seeing him in a while! Sang Woo, you grew up a lot. Fighting~!"
Although Roy Kim showed off his vocal skills through his cover of Damien Rice's "Volcano", he was unable to capture the hearts of judges Lee Seung Chul and Baek Ji Young. Fortunately, he was saved by judge Lee Ha Neul from being eliminated with a super pass.
Check out his audition for yourself! Do you think he has what it takes to make it?
