Jewelry on their member changes and comeback

The idol industry isn't like how it used to be.The fierce competition amongst idol groups means that a 2-3 year hiatus could leave a group in the dust. Standing at the center with 10 years under their belt, however, is Jewelry. The group debuted back in 2001 and went through slew of member changes before making a hit in 2008 with "One More Time", which finally engraved their name in the industry for good. After Seo In Young and Park Jung Ah left the group in 2009, Jewelry picked up two replacements to revitalize their group.Although none of the original members are left, these four ladies hope to make a triumphant comeback on January 27th with their digital single, "Back It Up." They explained, "We definitely had a lot of concerns over whether to change our name or not. But the group that raised the roof for the Star Empire company is Jewelry. The affection for the name was too big to throw away, and it also has the additional meaning of never losing our ground." Member Eunjung confessed, "I feel a lot of pressure in having to fill Seo In Young and Park Jung Ah's shoes, as well as having to lead the two new members, Park Se Mi and Kim Ye Won. Jung Ah and In Young unni both had such presence, you know. We really do worry a lot about having to show a different image and succeeding." Juyeon continued, "We've been watching how the two unnis led and maintained the team, but now that they're gone, it's hard to take up their space. They were both so amazing. If I have one selfish desire, it's to carry on the name of Jewelry. Like the Jewelry that did well in the past, we want to make sure we don't smear the name and let it shine." Regarding their goals, the four girls reached the consensus that "Jung Ah and In Young unni were both a mountain they had to climb over." "We want to become the best singers in Korea. After we get our talents recognized, we want to get our name known overseas. All of us linked pinkies and promised to stand on the year-end stages for 2011," they said. The girls also shared their plans on surviving in the cut-throat world of girl group competition. "There are a lot of girl groups but we think the competition helps promote growth. We'll be working hard to make the day come where we succeed in the market with just our charms alone."
