In the Studio with Royal Pirates!

Royal Pirates' newest original song debuts here on allkpop! allkpop brought you Royal Pirates back in March. This time allkpop brings you a closer, more personal look into the two musicians that make up your beloved Royal Pirates. Royal Pirates started in 2004, originally as Fading From Dawn, featuring guitarist-vocalist Moonchul Kim, drummer Sooyoon Kim, and bassist Richard Kim (Moonchul's older brother). Unfortunately, after a tragic car accident in Pomona, California, Richard died at the age of 21 in April last year. Despite tragedy, they continued without a bassist as a two-piece band with a Muse-inspired rock sound. Through Moonchul's soulful falsetto and Sooyoon's compositions, the band is gaining much recognition. Sooyoon's song writing skills have been recognized by a major Korean producer. Sooyoon will be working closely with this as yet unnamed producer to write songs for other Korean artists. The duo has gained popularity through their youtube covers of popular Kpop hits such as Super Junior's Sorry Sorry and Wonder Girls' Nobody. Their popularity has led to a love call from Star King, Korea's star search show featuring today's best talents. However, the Royal Pirates have declined due to scheduling issues with each member's responsibilities to school/classes. The more important and personal issue was their band image as a cover band. Appearing on the popular television show along with the actual group Super Junior may have left audiences and fans alike with the impression of a wannabe famewhore band. To prevent any misunderstandings, the band politely declined to focus on original songs and music for fans to enjoy. Recently, the band was featured and interviewed on Korea's news network YTN. Love calls and their passion for music, keep the Pirates making music as they look forward to working with Korean management/entertainment companies in the near future. allkpop had the pleasure of bringing and watching the Royal Pirates in action at the Sound Aslyum recording studio, under the supervision of sound engineer/producer Mike Troolines in Santa Ana, California. While working, the guys had a couple run-throughs and recorded a brand new song called Crawling Out! The lyrics written by Moonchul are not based on a true event. We had a good laugh about the inspiration for the song. Crawling Out will definitely have you playing it over and over! And we'll definitely be playing it a lot on the new allkpop Radio!

Like the guys say: Rock Hard, & Love Easy!
