YG Entertainment confirms CL will not be renewing her exclusive contract
    8 Nov 2019

On November 8, YG Entertainment released an official press statement in regard to 2NE1 member CL's exclusive contract.

Read the label's full statement below:

"Hello, this is YG Entertainment. We have come to an agreement with CL to end her exclusive contract, in order to respect the wishes of both sides. We would like to relay our deep word of thanks to the fans, who loved CL during her shining promotions as an artist under YG Entertainment.

After debuting as a member of 2NE1 in 2009, CL promoted as both a leader and rapper, while also leading trends in fields such as music, fashion, etc. She also left proud footprints in the title of the first Korean female solo artist to enter Billboard's 'Hot 100' chart, in October of 2016.

We ask for your abundant encouragements and attention toward CL's new and future activities, and YG Entertainment also promises to cheer her on with unchanging loyalty and affection. Thank you."

Best of luck to CL in the next steps of her career, moving forward!

That was expected, I think things weren't too good for her in YG tbh I don't keep up with her but I've seen some fans posting some stuff about her and it was quite clear that she wasn't happy. (also sorry if this is not the case, I really don't keep up with news about her)

It looks like they are parting ways without bad feelings towards eachother.

This is actually a really respectful and cheering statement of her leaving.

I really think that this is the best for her, i would like her to open her own label. CL is capable of doing so.
She is talented, charismatic and hardworking.
Now if Dara also decides to not renew her contract, maybe all of the Girls could come together as 2NE1 again.

I will forever support her and the rest of the Girls.
I can't wait to see what she will bring out in the next few months.

Finally thank god. Now cl can comeback and release new music. I hope she signs with psy label but I’m sure any label would be happy to get her.

    THANK GOD!!!!

As a blackjack, I have been waiting for this day. She had soooooo many unreleased songs, including an official video for hello bitches that she recorded and was never put out. So many songs that should've came out and the ones she did release were underpromoted. She really was sitting inside YGE suffering.

Hmmm I wonder if people who are celebrating her leave will financially support her once she starts working again.
And I wonder if it's too late for her to revive her career.

It’s waaayyyy to late. She’s only a year older than Sunmi and Hyuna, but Sunmi honestly just blew up unexpectedly and Hyuna is surviving off legacy tbh (cfs and festival shows).

CL might be ok, but I don’t think her musical direction is what’s popular in SK rn and it’s gonna be a uphill battle.

Sunmi didn’t blew up unexpectedly tho. Her first solo debut 24 hours was a really good debut and she’s been in constant increase after that. Hyuna too is always constant in her success.

CL would probably have some problem since its a way too long of a hiatus. But she does have a strong stage presence and given the right song and the right producer, she won’t have a problem. At least partly thats how I hoped.

I don’t think the right song is something she would perform. Like I said, the type of music CL usually releases isn’t what SK is into rn.

And in regards to Sunmi, that’s what I meant. She kinda got lucky that Gashina took off. If she had debut with Noir or Heroine, I bet she wouldn’t be as popular as she is today.

And I wouldn’t say Hyuna is constant in her success. She doesn’t chart anywhere close to how she did in her prime and honestly I think that’s primarily why she still gets attention. SK fell in love with her during her prime but she definitely been on a constant decline in recent years.

Sunmi is the most popular member in Wonder Girls. 24 Hours and Full Moon, the solo songs she had when she’s under JYP were two of the most popular songs in Korea for 2014. Gashina is not her first popular song. While Heroine and Noir wouldn’t do as big as Gashina, but it would sell a lot either way because in lack of other words, its Sunmi. She sells.

Hyuna too, while not as much as how she sold Red or Bubble Pop, but she is very constant, she can still sell a lot. Her success is not based on how much she sells on each release, its based on how she sells a lot anyway on all release. Just like Sunmi, its the same, its Hyuna. She sells.

CL’s problem is that she was on hiatus for way too long. We don’t know if she’ll be like Sunmi or Hyuna, or she’ll just be selling to her type of audience.

I'm glad she's free to do what she wants now. It's been way too long. I wonder if she'll try to establish her solo career in Korea or go to the US.
