When it comes to girl groups, people always say that they need the uncle fans just to provide them success. Uncle fans are good for short term popularity, but they're not going to be there in the long run because they're too "curious". I don't really understand how they are so important if they're only going to exist for a couple of years and then vanish.

    Idk either
maybe because they're able to purchase more albums than younger fans?

They have money, and are usually VERY thirsty, so they buy a lot of their stuff. But yeah, they leave as soon as another GG debuts.

Maybe they have more money so they can buy a bunch more than younger male fans? They are the ones who are important with digitals too, right? Since they are the "general public"

Not trying to be rude but I always fine international fans attitudes towards older fans weird. Is there older creepy fans? Yes? But let's not pretend there isn't ones in the younger age group. Being closer in age to them doesn't make it any better.

I never felt weird until I started attending concerts in the USA. In Korea, everyone goes to concerts of their favorite groups. Most parents have their kids signed up for many after school programs. So guess who was free to attend concerts? A lot of younger fans in Korea do go to fan signs though. Guess yall want your groups to die when they hit those yucky ages right? lol

But do male fans in general really buy albums? Im an Uncle fan by definition who has been obsessed with f(x) since I first discovered them in September of 2015. And I just last month got around to buying their albums.

I havent bought any other albums from other girl groups I love.

The only plus of Uncle fans I can see is they show up in hordes at fanmeets. There is rarely any girls at girl group fanmeets. Without us guys these groups would show up to an empty house.

idk i feel like they do help with popularity/sales due to having the money, but i dont really think about it that much

also just bc their old doesn't mean they're necessarily a creep

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think the issue is them being older. If that was the problem, then they wouldn't have a separate name for it. I've always taken "uncle fan" to mean a very specific type of older fan who knows they're a perverted creep, and is hiding their sexualization of children by labeling it as being a "familial" fondness.

Are we really going to pretend that the reason agencies keep putting some of their girl groups in school outfits is because it's so original? The Kpop industry thrives on different demographics making it successful and they have no problem exploiting it.

well most groups don't make it a year, so any demographic supporting a group for a couple years is beneficial

Because noona fans only care about SHINee and auntie fans only care about KDrama.

I am in the same boat for a lot of the groups I follow. I was in my early/mid 20's for some groups and now barely over 30 and other fans treat me like a pedo noona. Didn't really care when I attended concerts in Korea but it's weird while attending concerts in the USA.
