BTS reminds me a lot of TVXQ tbh. They’d be the only two groups that really towered over everyone else in pretty much all aspects but which group really has the edge over their respect generations? (I’d also put SNSD for girl groups)

TVXQ dominated Japan and Korea and they still do, they are classed as legendary for it but BTS dominates most of the world, including Japan and Korea, and they are killing the game right now so, for me, it’s definitely BTS but I’m not downgrading TVXQs achievements at all.

TVXQ (5) broke up before they hit their peak.

BTS have no competition within sight in Kpop, TVXQ were still challenged

Honestly, is this important? They represent different generations, there's no reason to compare them.

I say BTS as TVXQ had close rivals but both set the stage.

well, back then TVXQ have challanged every single year of their career, 2004 (SG Wannabe), 2005 GOD, 2006 Suju, 2007 BigBang, 2008 BigBang and 2PM, 2009 BigBang..

But now? BTS since 2018 doesnt has challanged at all ! the gap its too far.. even if u combine EXO, SVT, and X1 total album sales rn cant match BTS..

Tvxq wasn't as dominant as some people seem to think outside of Japan. I mean, they were practically the only boy group for a few years but then as soon as newer groups debuted, they gave them a run for their money domestically, especially as far as the general public was concerned.

Dbsk was the only game in town (or survived) so 2004, 2005, 2006 were their game. They took 3/4 of the market for idol group but the pie were much smaller then. Their rival SS501 were far and away behind them.

Bts dominated year is 2018, 2019 and they take around half the market, if we go by physicals. If comparing just these years they are about the same if we talk about share of the pie in relative to the pie.

SG Wannabe isn't even an idol. They were on a completely different spectrum, seen as ballad singers. 2005 G.O.D.? No, G.O.D. prime was short 2000-2002. Take out Suju please for 2006, they rose in 2009, and after TVXQ disbanded. The only appropriate challenge TVXQ had was BigBang, and that was already when TVXQ were at the top, and BigBang was gunning for the top spot. In terms of album sales, concert attendance, revenue, etc, TVXQ were just as dominant if not more dominant than BTS from 2004-2009. Because they basically had the entire Asia to the industry's fullest potential at the time just as BTS has the world to today's own fullest potential.

It's funny how people don't put context into this. You have to realize that KPop wasn't as spread out like today, and that somebody had to go out there and promote and succeed instead of people already being used to it.
