Where are you from again ?
I think people tend to make quirky a small concept, but it can really go any way, like Orange Caramel aren't really on the cute side of things but they are a quirky group so they'd be more quirky sexy, it's a sexy concept but they aren't doing it the same way Sistar/EXID/Girl's Day. Like could you imagine Crayon Pop or Red Velvet wearing this?
It's now 8:40 AM in my corner of the U.S..
Some people will call anything that’s not a try-hard hip hop concept “cute”
We are 8 hours apart lmao
Red flavor yes but Rookie? whut
Rookie rookie is the definition of quirky lol
whats the difference between that and sha sha sha. pls. thats the song they used the most aegyo voice in.
Those are poster tracks for quirky in my view.
yeah i just would feel really twofaced if i kept disliking twice because of their cutesy songs and then turned around to defend RV from the same thing even if i like them
Have you actually heard the song or did you only hear the lookie lookie part? cheer up and rookie are sooo different imo
I'd say twice is cutesy/girly standard cute, whereas RV is quirky/weird cute (Rookie, RR and Dumb Dumb at least). Both are cute, but different types of cute. y'know what im sayin'
so you can justify your liking for them
but i'm telling you that i actually like them? of course i heard the song. i gave it more than one chance to grow on me but i dont wanna be a hypocrite when i trash twice left and right. you guys might wanna see it differently but it doesnt take a genius to know those songs werent 180 degrees apart just because reveluvs label them as quirky.
they are quirky and cute. Compare peek-a-boo to be natural or automatic.
They're not 180 degrees apart but they most certainly aren't the same lol. If that were the case, Reveluvs and Onces will have no reason to fight which wouldn't be fun
...of course they would have reason to fight lol. they arent the same group and they are competitors.
I was just messing at that last part, it's K-pop so everyone fights lol. But I stand by the fact they are not the same. Which is another reason why RV fanbase is mostly female, while Twice is strongly male.
I always say they’re quirky. But as soon as I do it’s always the same people saying “fans always try to pass them off as quirky because they want them to be unique”
I just think they’re straight up weird
According to this thread, somehow the word cute still manages to worm its way in, so I'll settle for calling them "off-cute"
I agree with you on the murderous description, this is the second time murder have been used in their concepts maybe to set them apart from the textbook cute.
I think they fall in the cute but dangerous side. They are cute enough to lure you but once you are in they may kill you just like sirens or those temptress we've read about.
To make it simpler, if they were to star in a movie it will be an horror one with an unexpected plot twist.
They are not going for your heart in a Likey way but for your your shirt to add to their collection of men killed through a rite with lots of candles and a crossbow.
There's a definite divide on this I didn't expect, at least to this degree.
If the thread is any indication, there's a large contingent who definitely do view RED VELVET as "cute" at least by some measure (you included).
Perhaps what's ultimately viewed as cute is very much personal.
For me, at least in terms of categorization, I tend to view concepts and aesthetics in more strict terms.
I mean I can definitely see the brief glimpses of what might be considered "cute".
To use Peekaboo as an example.
Peekaboo in of itself is a sort of cute phrase.
Some of the hand gestures are kind of cute.
But overall, it doesn't give me a cute vibe.
I feel similarly about other RED VELVET titles that people have proposed as cute examples.
They don't, on the whole, strike me as cute.
Feminine quirkiness seems to be more apt in my mind.
What I see as deserving of the cute label (as far as K-pop goes) is much more of the traditional juvenile & child-like conception.
Groups like TWICE, OH MY GIRL, etc.
But as I stated. Cute is perhaps very dependent on one's personal conception of what they consider cute as well as their definition of what a "cute" concept is.
(The above is a legitimate smiley face.)
(I'm gonna start using this disclaimer for all my emoticon use lol.)
I think red velvet are somewhat cute, but they (or whoever controls their concepts and mvs and songs) always like putting sort of a twist on it to make it more interesting? like the murder concept lmfao that’s been used twice.
i think definitely red velvet are cute and have been cute before. like have you seen yeri in ice cream cake? and the rookie chorus chant?
however i think they like playing with it, and making it weird. so ya cute is sometimes part of their image, but often twisted
