    3 years ago, former British PM Teresa May had promised reforms to the UKs Gender Recognition Act that would make it easier for people to change their gender listed on the birth certificate. Currently, they require 2 doctors notes to confirm the change, this must also include a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria, where signifcant mental stress can be proven to be caused byt he disparity of the displayed birth gender, and the identifying gender.

    There is also a requirement to pay £140.

    The Government promised to launch a review into the system to improve it, stating that they were aware of the bigotry that the Transgender community faced, and how difficult it was for them to be fairly represented.

    3 Years later, after a change in Government, and supposed Cabinet infighting, the Government is abandoning plans to reform the Gender Recognition Act. Instead they simply state that they will be modernising the system.

    GENDER RECOGNITION POLICY CHANGES;
    • The application fee for a Gender Recognition Certificate will be significantly reduced to ensure cost is not a barrier for anyone
    • At least three new gender clinics established over 2020/21

    REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION OF A GRC;
    • A medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria from an approved medical practitioner
    • A medical report from an approved medical professional providing details of any treatment they have had
    • Evidence they have lived in their new gender for at least two years;
    • Agreement from their spouse/civil partner to the marriage/civil partnership;
    • Make a statutory declaration that they intend to live in the acquired gender until death (making a false statement is a criminal offence).

    Embarrassing tbh, the Government should do more to recognise Trans people and follow the real science, leaving the psuedo bullshit in the 1900s. :(

    It's ridiculous how much the government requires just to let trans people be themselves, it's not like letting them identify as their gender poses any sort of danger or risk but it's being treated as if it does
