So this is the current top 15 groups in sales for Gaon plus a little video where the info is from. SNSD and Twice are the only Girl groups in the top 15. Wanna One is the youngest group on the list and Twice is the youngest permanent group on the list. I am also trying to put how many releases but for the pre Gaon groups im not exactly sure how many of their albums to include only post Gain ones or if to add the pre ones as I think if they are brought now they count towards Gaon. If I am not right on a couple let me know.

    1)BTS: 9,676,614- 13 Korean Releases
    2) EXO: 7,565,020- 10 Korean Releases
    3) Wanna One: 2,894,873- 3 Korean Releases
    4)Twice: 2,702,665- 9 Korean Releases
    5) Super Junior: 2,696,962
    6) SNSD: 2,393,654
    7) GOT7: 2,241,706- 11 Korean Releases
    8) Seventeen: 2,194,211- 8 Korean Releases
    9) Shinee: 2,090,065
    10) Big Bang: 1,661,062
    11) TVXQ!: 1,600,059
    12) Infinite: 1,521,798- 12 Korean Releases
    13) VIXX: 1,285,527- 15 Korean Releases
    14) Beast: 1,116,324
    15) CNBLUE: 1,041,771

Gotta give it to SuJu. I knew they were big, but I had no idea they were above SNSD big.

The difference between BTS, Exo and the rest of the groups is so big.

Meanwhile Snsd and Twice are up there representing girl groups.

And second generation boy groups are still slaying it after so long. I'm so proud of them all.

This youtuber has done great job making these videos. I'm not overly into comparing sales numbers and stuff, but these moving colorful bar graphs are weirdly satisfying to watch. o_O

My main takeaways from this data:
    1. The overall growth of Kpop market since 2010 is astonishing. In the era of everything going digital, Kpop has been bucking the trend and selling more and more physical albums.
    2. Before the emergence of BTS, W1, Twice, SM had total domination in album sales.
    3. A lot of newer Kpop fans underestimate SuJu's significance. SuJu was the king (SNSD the queen) of album sales of second gen.
    4. The rise of BTS, W1, Twice was impressively fast.
    5. VIXX is the most surprising entry on this list for me. I didn't know they sold that well.

Actually Wanna One had 5 releases not 3. Repackages count.

I know physicals still matter a lot because of the money they make... But part of me hates that the kpop industry is literally the only place left where physicals still mean something. Most other markets are just straight digital at this point.

Gaon separates sales between the full group and units. SNSD sales are not counted with SNSD-TTS and SNSD-OH!GG sales. All of NCT's sales from their different units are counted separately as well.

It’s sad that girl groups struggle with physicals even tho they slay digitals. It appears only 1 girl group per generation is able to break the top. I wonder if that’s a trend that’ll continue with the 4th gen.

Go Twice, in just 3 years up along side some of the biggest sellers Kpop has ever seen and only them and SNSD holding it down for the GG's.
