I've not even bothered to click on the article

The title alone is off putting

They could have used the word 'fan', but they went for 'groupie' instead

Aren't groupies girls who follow bands around on tour and sleep with the members? For status, or to simply live out the fantasy?

Is that what they think kpop fans go to concerts for?

I'm not denying that sasaengs exist but this title doesn't seem to be talking about them

K-pop isn't popular past people in their 20s besides a select few groups.

Okay, but what does that have to do with my post? I'm quite certain the average trot listener is older than the average kpop listener
My issue was with the word 'groupie'

Unless that word doesn't mean what I think it means

Kpop doesn’t even have groupies. Big ‘I didn’t bother to research and am going off my knowledge of western groups energy.’

According to wikipedia "The term groupie is a slang word that refers to a fan of a particular band who follows this band around while they are on tour or who attends as many of their public appearances as possible, usually in hopes of getting to meet them." It's basically boomer way of saying stan. Boomers should upgrade their lingo

Most trot listeners are like 40+ so they are obviously older than kpop stans but they would be older than a lot of age groups

    Basically.

I actually wonder if there is a wave of nationalistic/isolationist young people that listen to trot and enka.

Considering that there's this newtro (new retro pun) thing happening in SK for a while, I don't think it's impossible. lol

They should know the connotations of that word
    Screenshot_20201108-215850_Chrome.jpg

    Idols arent rock stars
It would be frowned upon if they were found to have sex with fans

I consider myself a stan but I go to concerts with the expectation of seeing them perform, I dont follow them around trying to seduce them
There are fans who can attend multiple stops per tour but most don't, concerts are expensive

They probably just meant to refer to a dedicated, passionate fan but groupie just makes me think of 'band sluts'

js, there are def some idols who have slept with fans/sasaengs. but yeah, the term groupie shouldn't have rlly been used for this comparison based on what the article seems to be about based on the title.

Yeah I mean I'm sure it has happened but what I meant is that it isn't a status thing like it is for other bands
It all has to be kept much further under the radar
The biggest groups for sure wont be sleeping with fans

everyone already knows this? The age bracket for kpop is teeny bopper to mid 20s (and ahjummas for BGs).
