They have no religious meaning and they don't belong to any race. With that being said, durags don't even belong to black people or "back culture", that's a broad statement, black people in africa aren't wearing them, and most black people in Central America and Europe aren't either. From my understanding, durags were first used by African Americans as for gang affiliation whereas of now, they're used to get waves. And from what I know from my black community, none of them are in gangs and the majority aren't trying to get waves either, especially the older folks. The US isn't the center of the world. Durags or more "gangster" culture or motorcyclist culture as seen below.

People were getting upset that Hwasa was wearing one during her Queendom performance and claiming cultural appropriation and calling her racist for wearing one. And I thought it was ridiculous.

durags do have a cultural significance. they don't belong in asia or on the heads of people with straight, silky hair.

in this case and especially in kpop, the us IS the centre. ask yourself why hwasa is trying to pull of this image and question the certain elements of her outfits and the back up dancers to do so... it's not random.

I don't think its inherently wrong for those who aren't black to wear them but it's obvious she only wore stereotypical black headwear to look "hip hop" and that in itself is questionable. It's like how Koreans call box braids "reggae" hair. She came across as a "blackaboo".

It was mostly on twitter and a few bashes made by it plus some Youtube comments. However, I just hate how people throw the word racism and culture appropriation around. They're serious terms, but they're used so heavily for the littlest thing
