Real talk? Not all dubs are bad. There are a, uh... FEW that are actually okay and in some cases preferable to the Japanese. But I think it all begins with what version you're used to. I used to be a strictly dub person when I was younger, mainly because I watched anime on network TV and it was what I was used to. Full Metal Alchemist (both versions) had a pretty good dub. I CAN'T EVEN TRY to watch Dragonball Z and onward in any language but English because the Japanese voices are SO completely different. I like the One Piece dub. I like the Princess Tutu dub (barring Mytho we don't talk about him).

But some dubs are just HORRIBLE. Black Butler was so focused on sounding "AUTHENTIC" AND BRITISH that it just sounded... stupid. STUPID. Full Moon wo Sagashite made me want to cry it was so bad. But besides the BB dub, NOTHING offends me more than the Madoka Magica dub. I don't understand why anyone would like it??? Kyubey and Homura's voices were GREAT but everyone else was so focused on sounding like the Japanese voices that everything they said felt flat and fake with not even HALF the emotion behind it. Madoka was MAGICAL in Japanese but the dub didn't do it half the justice it deserved.

On a side note, the Attack on Titan dub is pretty jarring because I'm so used to the sub but it's not as bad as some.

In my case, I am not from an English country, so English dubbed doesnt just work well for me. It sounded much better in Jap. I am ethically Japanese, so I feel like my Japanese blood was just boiling strongly in me and I feel I am very comfortable listening in it.

Definitely. I think dub is only good when you have parents like mine who opposes you watching anything that is not in either english or mandarin. (maybe spanish, because i need to learn spanish)

Well when I first started watching anime I was younger than 10 and saw it on cartoon network. They only had dub. So most of the anime I watched from the old times is in dub and its only cause I'm used to it now. I can't watch fma brotherhood with anyone but vic mignogna, aaron Dismuke, travis Willingham, etc.
Most of the recent anime I have watched is in sub. But I honestly don't care either way. My gripe with dub is that they don't convey emotions as well. And my gripe with sub is that most of the females sound the same.

Most people that watch dubbed anime are people that are new to watching it. They don't know that the sub is available, or they don't think that it is worth the watch. Others, choose to watch dubbed anime because they either don't care, are too lazy to read subtitles while they watch, or they actually like the dub. I used to watch dub because I wasn't aware of sub, but I found that there are certain (albeit rare) anime that are actually better dubbed. Some examples include Lucky Star, Hetalia, Ouran Host Club and Soul Eater.

Sometimes I find that some dubs are even better than the original voices and unlikely Tv series it don't bother me since there no such thing as mouth synchronisation (If I can say that).

I prefer the sub, but sometimes the dub is better for a particular anime.

I WAITING FOR A THREAD LIKE THIS.

I used to watch dubbed anime because I thought it would be inconvenient to watch with subs. Boy, was I wrong. They pronounce the name's wrong and I don't think you get the full experience of the anime either

I watch nearly all anime subbed, my only real exception is when I watch Ouran High School Host Club because I love the dubbed version.

    Either

They are too lazy to read the sub's

    Are use to the dubs

Can't read the sub's and watch the anime at the same time.

    More comfortable with dubs

I used to watch Asian dramas viet and cantonese dubbed until I discovered the internet. Watching dubs is only forgivable if you're illiterate.

Because with dubs you don't have to spend 50% of the time with your eyes glued to the bottom of the screen reading xD It's easier

To me it's a no brainer. I am most comfortable with my own language, so that is what I am going to watch unless I have no other choice.

Many otaku get vehemently snobbish about the issue, but I just don't care. I can enjoy it just fine in my native english.

To each their own of course.

I only watch the dub version of an anime if the original has voice actors that really annoy me, e.g Goku in DBZ.
Otherwise, I prefer watching in Japanese with subtitles.
