    RV is still going strong
    Twice reigns supreme
Black Pink, IZONE, JYPNGG, and now Black Label’s GG will be or are huge contenders
Even small company GGs are getting trendy like IDLE and Loona

SM only has Lami as a visual ace, but she’s not even as pretty as Irene. Not to mention a bunch of trainees left. It would be crazy for SM to rush for a 2019 debut. They might be better waiting until 2021 or beyond for the new generation to start up fresh without too many fierce competitors.

I'd actually like SM to debut a new GG in 2019 or 2020.
Don't give a shizzle about the competition

Nah. They typically debut two groups per generation anyway.

Then it won’t be a main group like SNSD, it would be another side group like fx and RV was.

NCT has changed things as most resources are going to them

What do you mean by a main group? I though SM were to debut a GG that would be like SNSD

I personally feel like we are already entering gen 4 or on our way there. But based on how often groups are being debuted these days from the Big 3, I reckon this "gen" stuff wont be as clearly defined as previous ones

That was the initial plan, but obviously there’s been delays and problems assembling a strong enough line up

I guess you can technically call it gen 4 as soon JYPNGG debuts, or am I wrong?

I don't think they can really predict the start of the next generation, it's not like they're pre-set. Each generation has started when new big names with lots of potential have emerged and the scene has changed. Basically new groups created their own step on the ladder. There's a chance the next wave of new ggs from major labels will start the 4th gen - I say ggs because they seem to be next in line.
Personally I think SM's probably going to wait a bit longer for a gap in the market.

IZ*ONE is 4th gen of kpop!

If SME wait until 2020 / 2021 they are swept by the others from the music market.

If they come out with a group weaker than RV they will be swept off anyway
