At his own fans no less!
Gives all new meaning to Dragula. Drag em, Rob...
You go Rob, now you have moved further up my list of cool guys
i would've never expected him to defend them tbh
moving up on my non-existent list of metal oppas
The concert was just up the road from me last weekend, but I couldn't make it. Folks are still talking about how BabyMetal blew the crowd away.
Music elitist are THE WORST!! 1000 points for Rob, he's awesome
Word. "Purists" need to go away. Its not art if its not being challenged and having its boundries pushed. Which is kinda hilarious that BabyMetal are classed as a "gimmick group for money" when they've brought some of the biggest changes in the art, in a manner that was not easy money but an actual financial risk. Mixing Jpop and Metal was never going to be an easy sell anywhere in the world. Girls brought about a new genre of music. People should think about what they're even talking about before talking.
BabyMetal was the most genius marketing idea I've seen in the music world in years...mixing the best of two different genres to combine the fans as one. Pure genius. I've laughed hysterically at how dumbfounded the metal community was in the beginning. "They're awesome...but they're little girls.....but they rock....but their Japanese Pop....but they're just.....awesome.....". It was so comical watching the metal heads spin. Today, everyone eventually falls for them in a big way.
I have a good friend that is big into metal, and a huge Lamb of God fan. He came to me over a year ago and, knowing I was a Jrock fan, and ask..."Hey, have you ever heard of these little girls....." "BabyMetal?" I said. He was floored that I knew them (as I'm not really a metal head) and he was already a big fan.
Edit: Speaking of Lamb of God......(twitter today)
I have several friends, and family, that are professionally trained musicians, with either performance or teaching degrees from a few of the most elite unis in the US (Berkley, N.Texas, Indiana, Rochester E.). We hang and talk a lot about music. Very serious folks. It's frustrating. Everytime I bring up a new band or genre, they scrutinize it for signature complexity, tonal transitons, chord progression, etc. etc.....music geek speak. They simply can't just sit back and enjoy. They are too busy analyzing. Kinda ruins the experience. They did the same for BabyMetal (and Aldious, and Band-Maid, and Gacharic Spin, and Scandal...and...and most bluegrass players...and.....).
(But not for Frank Zappa......I got 'em on Frank.)
Even purists can admit, Japanese teenage girls are bound to have miles better work ethic than the kind of guys who usually form metal bands.
