Dance Dance Dance is useless without reading Wild Sheep Chase first

Anything by Tolkien, anything by Marie Lu (although I haven’t read her new book yet and Rebel is eh :/), Howl’s Moving Castle series (really different from the movie but DEFINITELY recommended), and the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld.
Yeah, some of these are YA books but they’re pretty solid, and you can’t blame me as those books are intended for my age anyway :/

it's part of a trilogy of sorts

    Pinball
    Wild Sheep Chase
    Dance Dance Dance

you CAN read the books seperately too but imo you should read them in sequence or atleast 2 and 3 in sequence for the full experience

although the characters may not be named and described the same, the feelings and situations get carried over and develop from the first book to the third
