What do you think are optimal years for kid to start using smart phones and social networks?
As a parent, when will you let them use it?
I think that this is 1 of the big problems for parents nowdays. Like you cant not to give them smart phones and social networks bc everyone has it, but in the same time it is VERY risky... It is 1 of those ,,you cant be smart enough" moments.
I, personally, think that anyone who is under high school years (14-16 years) has nth to do on the internet, smart phones and social networks. The internet is just not for kids and the end! I think that my view is kinda old-fashioned, but I really cant understand what can the kid of 6-12 years do on the Internet.
PS: I put some general years with which you start the schools/are in the early years of the school.

I would say the last years of Middle school or High school would be the time when I would find them mature enough and ready for social media (and smart enough to be careful with it) but I know that they will be nagged and shamed by their peers if they aren't on social platforms before that...

So probably I will let them to have their phone earlier and will be mindful of the times but really, I think being on the internet as a kid isn't good for them. In my experiences the online world makes you lazy with grammar, encourages bad choices, makes bad and dangerous choices and contents more accessible and I can't know with whom my kid will make connections, can't protect them from the people lurking there. But imo, I have no other choice then try to teach my kid to be careful, emphatic and responsible, don't cyberbully and don't give out personal data, don't hate and remember to live a real life outside of the virtual world too.

Yes, I have dark views about this.

Depends on the kid’s maturity and awareness and sensitivity. Some kids aren’t mature and their parents give the, stuff like Twitter and they end up in hate bandwagons, some aren’t aware of the dangers and might meet some stranger who pretends to be their age and tries to make them tell too much info such as their address or ask them to meet up , except some of those kids aren’t aware that it can be dangerous and fall in traps or even get scammed, and lastly some kids are really sensitive and some can get hurt by cyber bullying and things like that. So it basically depends on how the kid is

But a question before that: how to be a good parent?

I think every school should do internet awards class , idk if it’s only my school but in 5th grade in science class we are taught about internet and the dangers and how to stay protected, I think it’s a good idea that kids are educated on the internet about stuff such as lurking, scams, predators, viruses and things they need to be careful on

I saw a lot kids oline who didn't took it serious or thought since they are kids they have other rights than adults online

Sometimes it can be as example that a 10 y/o writes with bad grammar, gets corected and than they accuse adults "stop bullying me!" or these kids write rude coments and won't accept that its not right to do so and say "damn this adults, even online they put on soooo much rules, I hate it!" and whats not.

So if I had kids I would not let them go online before the age of at least 12 and than I would try to get in touch with them like I would follow them on social media to see what they do cause I wouldn't get along with it when I would have a child that would for example bully a classmate online without that I knew about it to scold my kid for bad behavier. I know some of you may be "you don't have rights to know all of this" but I think its good when your kid for example would use Twitter that you follow him/her and see if they write insults or friendly messages

It is such a hard question...
Every time I start to think deep about it, I end up thinking that it is the best just not to have kids.
