This is how I feel.
I like Automatic and think it's great.
But I am not moved in the same way that OOTN accomplishes.
I miss their velvet side sm
ootn was amazing. it was a ballad, had choreography, and sounded amazing live. automatic was great too
I love this song! The vocals are just so soothing. Really wonderful. I never liked Red Velvet until I heard this. Since OOTN, I've been able to listen to Red Velvet's songs a bit more objectively, and there's a couple more of their songs I now like. I'll never be a huge fan, but anyone who can sing like this is alright in my book.
*calms myself down to converse about this song without getting overdramatic or wordy + crap.*
long story short (as short as i can make it), i love this song on several levels.
vocal wise, arrangement wise, + production wise, im always amazed by it. the piano, the choice in subtle bass beats, the layering, the harmonization + usage of all five girls voices (including irene's + yeri's lower register). it came together so magically
on a personal level, my ex + me were living out the translated lyrics of this song right when "The Velvet" dropped. it was a point in my life where i lost my car + was going through hardships with family. our love life becane distant between work, moving to another area, + other obligations. we never saw each other for weeks + months because of different scheludes. when this song came out + i read the lyrics + the story behind it. i cried. it was literally what my bf + me were going through. when i shared it with him, he told me that he loved the song because it matched how he felt as well.
My fav RV song <3 The mv is so sad and beautiful...
What a beautiful story! I wanttoask if you're still together but I'm afraid to sound dumb, oh well I guess I just did
Yes too bad, I miss their Velvet side too, they have great songs under that concept but unfortunately they had to step up their game with the rise of other ggs.
oh no, not at all. we ended the relationship (for several reasons, including some wrong doing on my part.) April last year. we still are good friends + my mom, sis, + grandma still consider him family.
their Velvet side added so much more appeal to them naturally. those tracks, along with their kooky, crazy, + vibrant Red songs, is what makes them standout among other girls groups. thats why i was quite proud of SM putting out "OOTN" as a title track. no other mainstream kpop girl group at that time were focused on putting out a r+b ballad as a lead single + had it genuinely well executed. that alone separted them from the rest of the groups, at least in my eyes.
I also love that song~ It's so calming and beautiful
the MV is beautiful, but watching them on live perf is even better. their voices give me chills.
this one also is beautiful.
I prefer their slow songs and ootn is one of my favorites from them.
Remind me not to ever listen to anything you recommend again...
I can't get this song out of my head, or off of my playlist. (It's been on repeat since last night, and I even put it in Key's lullabye playlist, so I'd have a reason to hear it during the day..)
-is two seconds from just purchasing every album they have and digging for more of these treasures-
You got me messed up, boy.
I agree. In terms of musicality and structure, the stars aligned for this one.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Music has a way of attaching itself to certain time points in our life. Searing into our psyche and telling us about ourselves and what we're living at that moment.
Glad you enjoy it.
The song has made me reconsider my casual fan status. Perhaps I'm gonna have to delve deeper.
Oh and you have to ultimately thank @soshilovelife. She's the one with the taste.
I'm just sipping the wine she serves me.
Perhaps I should ask her for more, I want to look more at them too. I never knew there was such beauty hiding there.
Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention, anyway...
Agreed! I have been listening to Red Velvet for a little over a year and continue to find new and interesting things in their music. I recently wrote an essay discussing RV's "Dumb Dumb" in-depth.

I DO NOT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING DUMB DUMB
