Both songs have similar bold and colorful styling and a fast paced beat. But which song in your opinion was riskier to release? Risky as in, more likely to flop/be unpopular with the GP due to their preference for boring and simple music.

Which song did you prefer in the end? For me, Zimzalabim is riskier and monumentally better as a song.

Zimzalabim is risky but Red Velvet's comebacks are all risky tbh
Meanwhile Fancy was really risky for TWICE since it was a concept change from the concept that gave them success to another new concept

Simsamlobam is definitely the riskier sound, it is also the worse song. It is exceptionally well produced noise, should have flopped harder than RBB yet it hasn't, even though RBB is better.

Zimzalabim but RV is risky with like 70% of their comebacks lmao. Kinda the norm now. With OOTN, Rookie, RBB and ZZB etc

I didn’t find Fancy that risky but the song is great, the concept was a nice evolution but not a drastic one.

How is fancy risky? You've seen that kind of song and mv 100 times in kpop already.

the only thing "risky" about fancy is that it was given to twice, but people have been asking for a girlcrush for them for forever now, so

It’s Risky for Twice visually because Twice stepped away for the usual cutesy concept this time around. Even sonically it was a different for them

neither is risky and people vastly overestimate how experimental RV music is. I have also made this mistake as well, so its not to say anyone is better. But people act to music like some of their favs are radically experimental. I think in kpop its gotten to a point where something that sounds kinda different is experimental. It is also used to excuse poor chart performance as, "well this was not made for the public or it wasnt public friendly." In reality the song could have just not been very well liked.

Risky? Zimzajhsdcijdhk was straight up bad. Fancy was different for Twice, not really original or smth but it wasn't a bad song

Oh please, if G-Idle or one of your other little gUrL cRoOsH groups had that song, you’d be saying it was the most innovative thing to pop out since the pencil sharpener

I somewhat agree with both of you. There is a huge tendency for K-pop fans to defend their favorite artist's music by saying it's experimental and too unique for the average (or dumb) listener to comprehend. They act like, only the true intellectuals can appreciate the subtle yet extraordinary new sounds.

I love Red Velvet but they seem to get the benefit of doubt from the fans and even on this board. Yet other groups like BP or Twice would have been dragged for releasing a song like RBB or Zimzalabim.

At the end of the day, it seems the majority do not like these kinds of songs while some people find these enjoyable. I personally, really like Zimzalabim but I can definitely see why most people didn't like the song.

Not to generalize too much but it seems like SM artists get this kind of praise for being experimental while other companies are labelled as trash or basic music.

    I completely agree.
