Melon to take measures to prevent illegal 'sajaegi'

Melon will be taking action to prevent sajaegi.

Fueled by eDaily's report on Chinese sajaegi factories, Melon announced its new plans to prevent sajaegi.

    The announcement read,

For years, we have been monitoring abnormal user patterns and have built and strengthened a filtering system.
The illegal app login fraud that was reported by media is already an illegal pattern that is monitored internally.Every month, we ban about 15,000 IP addresses including those from that pattern.
There are 1.44 million IP (including VPN) that are permanently banned, and every day, we protect 5,500 IDs by locking them.
However, because illegal chart sajaegi methods are getting more advanced, we are strengthening our defense system.
Currently, Melon uses the i-pin, which was created according to government policies to prevent excessive personal information gathering.
However, there are frequent and continuous cases of illegal i-pin usage.
To ban this entirely, we will soon no longer support the i-pin usage, and strengthen the verification process through cell phones.

Do they know there are one-use cell phones and Kakoa activation still in place right?

    Waaaaaaaahhhhhhh.......

That's what happens when you mess with TWICE and EXO-CBX.

CBX were also hurt by the "Nilo incident", now I am not going to blame Nilo as TWICE and EXO have antis that want to see them fail on charts and will pay to see that happen, I'm also thinking that Nilo may have been dragged into it too

So people were questioning Melon's legitimacy after the Nilo fiasco and they are now forced to take some kind of action to save their own reputation.

It's only when pressure is applied that Melon take some kind of action.

Makes you think what happens when people don't question the charts just because their favs are topping the charts.

thats not going to save them once they raise the prices

also theres 4million users who are already "registered", this would make sense if they made it mandatory even for old acc's.

I wonder how much this sajaegi issue is actually effecting Melon for them to be doing this. Sajaegi has been an issue in the music industry for years and even before this multiple artists have gotten into sajaegi controversies yet Melon did close to nothing on this issue back then. Sajaegi sucks for multiple parties and is unfair to many more but Melon is not one of the parties that loses anything (besides face) from it. They still make money off of all of those fake accounts, streams and downloads which is one of the main reasons they haven't been doing anything about it. I guess this Nilo incident really blew up. And I sort of feel bad for Nilo since one of the reasons he started rising was because of the anti clubs on FB. Also, if his company did do sajaegi, then that's not entirely his fault either.

Melon were caught by a Report that proved it was possible to bypass thier system using the ipin identification BUT what affected them most in the report is that it was done by Foreigners, that's the reason for their quick response. Foreigners are a good reason for Melon to blame for Chart Manipulation

Beside that, JYP, SM and Big Hit is going to launch a new streaming & download platform soon.
    https://www.allkpop.com/article/201...g-forces-to-create-new-music-service-platform

Melon never see minor streaming sites such as Genie and Soribada as a threat. That's why they did nothing.
But the new sites by 3 of Big 4 seems a big threat. So no matter how Melon need to do something.
Nilo incident is a really big boost though.

Because they know, if they do nothing, it is foreseeable that a big amount of users will go to the new music platform since their reputation as a music platform is going downtrend since Nilo incident.
