these are some of the Kpop videos that are inspired from cinema. Please feel free to share more/the ones I have overlooked:

    1. Windflower by Mamamoo. Shot in Hong Kong, the video is inspired from the Hong Kong New Wave cinema.
Especially the iconic works of Wong Kar Wai. You can see similarities in certain scenes in the MV and Wong's In the Mood for Love ( a must watch film if you love cinema imo).

    2. What is Love? by TWICE. What to say about this iconic song that is full of references to many popular and cult faves?

3.Maria by Hwasa. Starting scene is a nod to the Italian film Malena.

    4. The Red Shoes by IU. Based on a fairytale called the Red Shoes as well on an eponymous film called The Red Shoes (1948). The Album is titles "Modern Times", so go figure how much cinema is central to this IU album.

    5. Kill Bill by Brown Eyed Girls. It is titled Kill Bill for a reason.

    6. Married to the Music by SHINee inspired from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

    7. Give it to me by SISTAR. Inspired from the film Moulin Rouge. Fun film.

    8. Doom Dada by T.O.P inspired from Kubrick's iconic 2001: A Space Odyssey (one of my fav films).

    9. HOOT by SNSD. A great nod to James Bond.

    10. Roly Poly by T-ARA. Apparently inspired from Saturday Night Fever.

    11. L.I.E by EXID. Perhaps the most contemporary of this lot, inspired from Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel.

These are some of the kpop videos I knew of or found on further research (read: one google search) that are inspired from actual works of cinema. Please feel free to add more in the comments and don't forget to mention the film! (This post is not about cinematic kpop videos but rather about kpop videos inspired from films).

That is such a great song! And completely fits with the thread! I could make out Pulp Fiction and Suicide Squad (i think). Thank you for sharing this, I was not familiar with this gem

Peek-a-boo is an amaze song and MV but unfortunately i do not know if it is actually inspired from an actual film :( Maybe if in the future I do a thread on film like MVs, I'll be sure to include it.

Jackson said it was inspired by classic Chinese Hong Kong 90's movies, but he didn't specify a particular one.

The whole concpet is inspired by Amadeus (1984)
" TOPP DOGG 'Amadeus' Concept: Amadeus is a film showing in 1984. The story is about Salieri & Mozart. In the movie, Salieri was jealous of Mozart with his talents. The movie didn’t take Salieri’s jealousy focused on Mozart straight away, but it affected God. Why? Because Salieri had a question in his mind. "If God wants to give a music masterpiece to the world, why did he have to give it through that crazy boy, Mozart? Why not me?" In the movie, we’ll see Mozart as a crazy, derp, showing off, no manners and full of pride. But Salieri, he’s very hard-working and patient. He tries hard to make himself up to point. Salieri has to watch Mozart flirt with ladies using his compositions, drink and drink, never practicing music but can compose such great pieces. How couldn’t he get mad at God? So he starts to think of a plan to murder Mozart, by wearing a mask of Mozart’s father and tells Mozart to compose ‘Requiem’, which Mozart believes that if he wrote that song, he’ll die. When Mozart is dead, Salieri claims ‘Requiem’ as his. After Salieri killed Mozart, instead of being happy, he feels guilty. Finally he ends up at a mental hospital, left with only another question in his mind again. "Why though Mozart died but his music, his name is still around. I’m still here but no one remembers me.” SO.. The concept may be about how they’re UNDERRATED. How they worked hard but never get noticed as much as some other groups out there which represents MOZART. BY ; HANSOL93_B (Twitter) B-Joo plays Mozart while Hansol is Salieri. Hansol can be seen trying so hard to win whereas bjoo doesn't really but still manages to win at the end "

I had Jackson in mind for a very different song and somehow it slipped my mind. I must be ageing faster than I thought. This collab with Joji and 88 rising, but again not strictly kpop

I’m sure hardcore onces will be able to fill you up on that much better than i can lol but i think nayeon’s scene is supposed to reference that horror film about elm street or sth?, jihyo’s that cheerleading film franchise bring it on?, and tzuyu’s is definitely inspired by breakfast at tiffany’s. Jeongyeon’s is probably a nod to a french film whose name i forgot lol, just to name a few

Yeah there are articles on it too. What an oversight  In that sense it is a very similar MV to What is Love?

YEP. and the kpop industry seems to have a soft corner for Quentin Tarantino. SO MANY MVs are about Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. Given how violent his films are, I would think that would be the last director they'd pay homage to. But to each his own i guess.

    Jeongyeon's is Chungking Express.
    Nayeon is Scream.
Dahyun is Kill Bill, apparently (I don't remember that movie tbh).
Others are less specific. Mina's might allude to The Love Letter, Sana Sailor Moon, Momo Resident Evil , but these are not as direct.

Thank you! I looked it up and it does seem so. Though Chungking Express one was lost on me since the most popular scene of the film is the one where faye is on that escalator but the haircut is def faye
