Joy's hair is just braided into plaits. You can see the difference in the roots. Look at Joy's teaser:

I'm not against calling out idols for appropriating, especially with black culture and I'm aware that it happens frequently in Kpop. PERSONALLY, I'm not one to be against idols using different hairstyles i.e. dreads or box braids but I understand why others would be defensive about it and I support them. But in Joy's case it's starting to piss me off seeing people call her out for 'stealing their culture' when she CLEARLY isn't. It almost seems like it's become a game on Twitter to see how many idols they can cancel but the main problem I have with this is that it only desensitizes the whole issue of 'cultural appropriation' and calling people out for it. o_O

I think the meaning of cultural appropriation has been long lost.

In the future, I may be accused of the same for speaking in English.

EDIT: These many likes? Y'all are scared too, aren't you?

So it's only okay when Kai did it in Kokobop?

Note: This is a rhetorical question. It's just a hairstyle bro.

I agree with this but I feel like some black people might feel offended seeing other people with braids that are typically associated with black culture because they're often ridiculed for it.

Although I've personally never experienced that in the UK, I feel like this argument only works within the context of American societies as I assume there's a lot of racial discrimination towards black people there.

Someone did a sloppy job doing them. Just as terrible as Lisa braids for KTL.

he was accused back then, when his teasers were released, it wasn't even culture appropriation, it was becuase of the reggae style and genre of the song, but people can still choose to be ignorant either way and screaming ''CuLtUrE ApPrOpRiAtIon'' and cancel idols for stupid things they want to believe

Lol, I know, it was a rhetorical question mixed with sarcasm.:D

I think it's just a hairstyle and nothing further.

Look at Justin's cornrows and Hailey's braids:

yes i can totally understand but i just feel they are nitpicking
Jazz is a style of music created by black people of the afro americans community but i don't see anybody complain about cultural appropriation when white people are playing jazz
same can be say about hip hop etc..........

if we go like this where we claim cultural appropriation everytime someone do something who came from another culture people should just lock themself in their house and stop interact with other people
the whole "beauty" of this world is to see culture clash together and mix together

why japanese don't claim cultural appropriation when black people or white people eat sushi etc....

at a moment i can understand we can be upset about this but it's time to be chill and be accepted of other culture and let them mix together we are in the 21th century it's unevitable to see culture mix together

to me cultural appropriation it's a little too big word wearing braids etc... is not cultural appropriation to me at the moment this person doesn't not claim that this type of braids are from the "white" culture for example

i think people need to start to differenciate cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation

cultural appreciation is like say " oh this braids are cute i would want to have some too ", here it's just know that it's not your culture but still like it and want to show your appreciation of this culture

cultural appropriation is more like " This braids belongs to the "white" culture and not the black culture" which is appropriate yourself the culture of someone else and making yours

She is not, since there isn't a thing as a "one race only" hairstyle. Like come on we live in a globalized world, cultures are merging and there is nothing wrong with a hairstyle, why want to segregate the world more into races when the whole point is to stop the difference between races. Also it doesnt suit her tho and the hairstylist made it so messy

Koreans definitely have cultural appropriation. They are super racist and hateful towards black people, but copy African-American culture. These types of braids are a part of that.

Is Joy racist? I highly doubt it. It’s not Joy’s fault she’s wearing those braids, but it’s still yikes. If she’s not wearing that for a Western promotion though, she’ll be fine.

Even if it’s braided from the roots what the fuck is the problem in that ?
