We all know tvxq are hella popular in Japan. I think their popularity has died down slightly, due to members leaving etc.., but they still have a massive Japanese fanbase, and public who are willing to attend their concerts and buy album.

But is there any kpop group who has managed to accomplish a similar or same amount popularity as TVXQ did in their peak?

BTS right now, Bigbang in MADE, and Snsd in their peak was more popular than TVXQ in korea and their best selling japanese album outsold any TVXQ japanese album. TVXQ are probably the best moneymakers of the industry (i think BTS will surpass them tho), but in terms of popularity there were groups at their level.

    2. They were not listed as K-POP acts but as J-POP.
    3. World record for biggest fanclub

I'm not a cassie but y'all can't deny that TVXQ were gods.

exactly, were. Groups surpassed them. They havent had a hit in so many years. And their biggest song mirotic has been out-everythinged by so many acts. As other people have said, SNSD, Big Bang, BTS, EXO and probs more have outdone everything they did. That doesn't deminish their god status. Just shows that they aren't as untouchable as u delulu's claim

So... in that logic, One Direction > Backstreet Boys? Like 1D had more "youtube views" than BSB anyway. :siptear:

BTS,exo and bigbang because of the growth of K-pop...
Next generation groups will surpass them if K-pop keeps growing like this...

No group have surpassed TVXQ's peak. Right now you can say some groups "global" but they are not. It's just SNS effect they are not very popular in every country. TVXQ were massive at their peak even without SNS. They were #1 in Korea, Japan, China, S.E.A., Europe. Show me another K-Pop group who is mainstream in another country.

As i said K-pop is growing, due to this other groups are benefiting and becoming more popular...
Also the sns effect did help but it didn't help up to the point of selling out stadiums in USA, UK, France and Brazil..

yall new kpoppies with replying with bts, i cant-
yea no and dont quote this because i'lll give you a whole as essay
nvm i'll just give the essay now.
    1. TVXQ/DBSK debuted around 2003 - 2004. This is during the time where KPOP groups/idol era is laying low since HOT, Sechskies and other idol groups has disbanded, and this is the time that KPOP bands / Solo artist has risen. Also KPOP industry during that time is dying due to financial problem, however, when TVXQ came they completely changed the game. Selling 100k album back then is already huge since Korea is facing a financial difficulties but TVXQ's debut album sold more than 800k. This is the time where digital music doesnt matter.
    2. They recorded in Guinness Book of World Records as ‘having the largest official -paid- fan club’ back in 2008. Apart from international fan clubs and the official Japanese fan club BigEast; the official Korean fan club, Cassiopeia, had well over 800,000 members. TVXQ's Korea fan club closed in 2009, after the split of TVXQ
    3. TVXQ also put their names on the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most photographed group back in 2009. Through their official activities, the group was photographed over 500 million times.
    4. On December 31, 2009, tvN ENEWS 'Blackbox' revealed the top earners of 2009 in Korea. TVXQ ranked 1st with a revenue figure of $109M USD, followed by Rain ($53M USD) and Big Bang ($17M USD). On November 25, 2013, Korean media outlet Sports Seoul reported that TVXQ made a career revenue of $1.1 Billion USD up to that point. On February 22, 2018, Korean media outlet Cidermics reported that TVXQ made a career revenue of $2 Billion USD up to that point, which makes them the highest earning K-Pop group in history
    5. They (and BoA) opened the pathways for idols to perform in other countries esp Japan.
    6. Last but not the least, they are all visuals, they're good dancers, their live performances are same if not better than their recorded albums. Even BTS' Founder Bang Shi Hyuk said this;
Bang Shi Hyuk expressed his thoughts about the best idol group TVXQ.
Bang Shi Hyuk expressed, "TVXQ is simply a perfect group. All in all, their musical quality is extremely high. World Class."

He continued, "All the members are good looking, all the members have strong vocal ability and performance. Their level is so high. From this point of view, TVXQ will always the only one in the world."

Bang Shi Hyuk then added, "I saw TVXQ for the first time at a large video platform . They had just debuted. Everyone had been talking about them and their talents. I saw their performance, then I was shocked."

Furthermore, Bang Shi Hyuk guested on tvN's 'Baek Ji-Young's People Inside'on the March 3 in 2011. During the broadcast, he stated TVXQ was the best group.
note this isnt my essay because im not good with words.
