no real hit songs except maybe bad boy but it definitely wasn't as big as yg groups, momoland, bts or twice titles, nct doesn't seem to be taking off (with the public at least), exo subunit, shinee and taeyeon all kind of flopped or underperformed
    thots? why?

they sacrificed alot of things to push their new generation of artists even though groups like snsd and exo were such huge cash cows. now snsd is in hiatus and exo isnt pushed as their top priority like before. atleast they still got tvxq going strong tho i guess

EXO-CBX did pretty well plus it seems they have too many fronts open at the moment. It's like instead of dominating the charts they are making sure to get income from different ways.

SM is expanding, they bought a lot of TV assets and stuff. Don't speak if you don't follow.

Lol it backfired in the other thread and you decided to try it here?

I said that they are not focusing on music as much as other stuff. I answered the question in a right way. Try another time. 2:0

    Bad year? SM?

    - Red Velvet have once again done VERY well with their comeback this year and continue to grow their fanbase and public recognition. Their Japanese "debut" was good too. It's just the start for them there and will continue to grow in Japan.

    - NCT is still growing. SM groups never really find quick "success" as rookies, regardless of what people think and suggest about being part of the "big 3". NCT have still had a good year are will soon find their feet. The sub-units of NCT will start making serious money for SM soon enough, as the group will grow their fanbase and gain recognition etc.

    - Super Junior have had a very good comeback which was well received for the collaboration with Leslie Grace. SJ have never really charted well throughout their career.

    - SHINee have been serving fans with great and meaningful content this year. They are doing more than fine. Like SJ, they don't always chart well, but that doesn't mean they are doing bad. Far from it.

    - TVXQ have made more bank than most groups (perhaps THE most) this year (once again) due to their tremendously successful tour in Japan.

    - EXO's concerts have been going really well. Their sub-unit work was well received and fans are really anticipating their comeback.

    - Taeyeon (SNSD are doing solo work right now). Taeyeon came out with a special song for fans, that she didn't promote. It is different from what she usually does, so naturally SK GP won't take to it if it's not typically "cute" or a ballad. But that's not to say that fans didn't enjoy Taeyeon's comeback.

SM aren't having a "bad" year. It's not all about releasing hit after hit for a company to have a "good" year. If you aren't paying attention to the artists' activities, you could miss the fact that all of them are owning it.

TL;DR... If you are speaking about the charts only, SM groups, especially BGs, don't chart well. Never have. Those that have been around K-pop long enough knows that SM don't chart well. It's their physical sales, tours/concerts and fan activities that SM artists are great and among the best at doing.

The thing is they have so many artist yet they are all doing well for themself, not the 'number 1 rank/fastest YT view/best sales' kind of well but the artist are all still having decent CB and sales, even TVXQ and Shinee still got their loyal fanbase..TVXQ concert in Japan is no joke..

with rv yes but for nct, I think sm is pushing exo more than nct since it is where the money come from, exo get the best song imo

Sm look ahead to the future, they arent about one hit wonders.

They care more about concerts worldwide, the amount of money you can make from a hit song 1million downloads can be made with a tour or in tvxq or suju case one concert.

Nct 300k albums sold, but taeyeon flopped bad lets not talk around that, she cant focus on 2 countries at once.

Sm is smart, they aren’t focused on pleasing the public right now. They are expanding themselves as a company, they’re still making a lot of money anyway with or without having a huge hit. They don’t have to be #1 in the charts or have a hit song to do well as a company.

You'll be surprised to find that SM is making way more than any other agency so far.

With SM, you have to look deeper than charts. You should look at their modeling / endorsement deals, acting, variety show appearances, concerts/tours, fan signing events, etc

If you look there too you'll realise that SM is actually doing the best.
