I know Japan has it's shares of social problems, but it doesn't seem so severed like in Korea? In the entertainment industry, Japan seems to me they have gotten much further in artist rights and fair payment, unlike Korea we hear all the time idols burden with huge debts, mistreated and no pay at all. Not saying it doesn't happens in Japan as well. Forgot to mention they have many foreigners, half\japanese working in Jpop and audience seems to appreciate them, unlike Korea where knetz all the time bash on Kpop foreign idols. Seems to me Jpop is more tolerable to diversity than Kpop.

Yes it is, at least economically, it's more developed and has a much bigger amount of important companies in different fields through all the country, making it also more stable.
When it comes to social matters, it's actually pretty difficult to tell, but for what I see, while koreans tend to be more extroverted and "open", making them more easy to socialize with compared to japanese people, they do have a very strong national thinking which makes them very racist sometimes, while in Japan they will treat you right no matter what they think. In my opinion while both countries have pretty clear social problems I feel like Korea's expectations when it comes to both looks, behaviour and professional career (getting into a prestigious university and getting a high status job) is too much even when you compare it to Japan, I feel like koreans are too conditionated by their "be part of the community" and "what will the rest say" culture that it can makes them be both too insecure and too gullible.

Not even a question tho.. Korea was almost bankrupt after 2008 and their president said SM did devote lots of part economically.
But right now Korea came back to Four Asian Tigers title.
I mean just look at their GDP...
