Would it be okay for me to use like oppa or dongsaeng in a kpop fanfiction written in english? Or would it sound annoying or strange?

    I don't think it'd be weird in a fanfiction

I think it's ok since the English translations of those words will sound stranger.

I, personally, find it a bit hard to read but it's a pretty normal choice, so it seems pretty well received.

words that would be hard to translate should be used instead of a translation.

these are terms most kpop fans understand so it's just more efficient to use them.

you dont need to use them at all but if your eally really want to, use Korean words
translating them into English wouldn't make any sense to an English speaking person

as long as its only a few words.. I read fan fictions that were pretty much half korean half english.. with translations but still. It's nice you know so much in korean but I wanna enjoy reading this... xD but small things are okay I think

No. Don't use them at all. Well, at least, that's my opinion. I hate when people input random Korean words into fanfiction. It ruins the flow of the story.

If it's stuff like Oppa it's ok, since you don't want to call your crush 'bro'. But things like 'ottoke' or 'saranghae' or 'omo' are just cringey.

I think it's fine every now and then, mainly with words that Kpop fans would be familiar with but are difficult to directly translate. If it's used to advance the story then, sure, go for it. But imo I don't think they should be overused. :')

For me sometimes it hurts the flow but that's when it's being used in a really cringey manner

    I think it's fine!

Most people are used to seeing them anyway nowadays. I see people use them all the time. I think you'll be good.

SOmeone mentioned something aboutadvancing the plot which i thought was intresting....Like if you used the language to express like a bigger picture....i think that would be intresting to do in a fanfiction...but it would have to be actually plot advancing and relevent
and like other people said...not to severe....

I'd give 'oppa' and 'dongsaeng' a pass - thought just barely - since they have no direct translations in English but that's where it ends. Normal words like 'gomawo' for thank you, 'kyeopta', or 'saranghae' make me want to stick my head in a blender. Not even titles like 'songsaengnim' or adding '-goon' to the end of names are alright imo since they're just not needed, detract from the flow and are overall just cringey. I mean, I find the tropes and the lack of editing painful enough but using romanized Korean words are the cherry on top that actually kill me inside.
