I just checked US billboard chart and 2 songs out of top 5 - Cardi B and Juice songs - are remakes of old classics.

We have the same in Kpop when 2 of biggest songs this year BB and SN are songs which caused controversy due to them reminding other songs.

    Are we out of music?:waterr:

Actually I read one interesting article that said that "all the greatest music have been written already" and note combinations aren't endless.

    Discuss.

you mean US charts? its payola
hot100 is 80% weighted on radioplay with new changes, so basically what DJ's say its gonna be played, its gonna be played. doesnt matter if its remake or not.
alot of americans are complaining about it how its same 20 songs being played all over again.

you should rather check european charts, theres more diversity in music there.

there's plenty of gatekeeping on traditional media and some music you hear on the radio are formulaic.

it's why I mostly prefer having a vast music library at my fingertips haha

I wouldn't look at charts if I were looking for more creativity in music as they are usually a bit more niche :)

Creativity is only dead in mainstream music where the bottom line is making a dollar, so of course we'll keep hearing the same recycled music on commercial radio and places like YouTube because they tend to make the most money. There's plenty of original, daring new music out there if you dig past the corporate surface.

BB is NOT a good representation of creativity in music.

Drake is a good example of mainstream music. The man is always at the top of charts but his music is neither new nor innovative.

I find that Spotify is really nice about promoting new music from less known artists.

Because it's pop music, familiar vibe and sound attract more audience while other genres which are unique have less fans because of the opposite reason imo.

i disagree, artists such as kendrick lamar, frank ocean, solange, amy winehouse, etc. are pretty mainstream and they don't do recycled or generic music. you just have to take a good look because you cand find good music in the underground and mainstream.
