yes well developing country. sigh. but people do buy music but it is that shit music which has the same beat or a stolen beat, ugh.
Piracy is rampant here. Most people who buy art/music aren't the majority. But well at least now people stream ever since they launched gaana, jiosaavn, spotify etc
yeah. but the concert thing really hurts. we dont have good venues. Whatever venues we have, have shit sound system. the only good venues i have been to have been government owned.
They were all nugu af and basically nobody gave a fuck tbh. Band of Boys were the only ones who got some traction, Meri Neend and Gori were kinda sleeper hits and played in enough households, so they kinda built a fandom but apart from 1-2 members who got into acting and fizzled out, nothing came of the members. Faded into obscurity. Same thing with Viva/Aasma. Group achieved nothing but Neeti Mohan, Anushka Manchanda and Neha Bhasin went on to become somewhat successful playback singers. Indi pop has mostly always been about soloists barring the odd band here and there, either from our own country or Pakistan. You had Shaan, Lucky Ali, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam releasing pop albums and doing really well but Bollywood and remixes killed that industry. Last successful pop star was Abhijeet Sawant, the first Indian Idol probably.
Some actual bops from that generation aka me showing my age Shaan oppar Lucky Ali ahjussi Falguni Pathak aka Dandiya Noonar Colonial Cousins Abhijeet Sawant Kailash Kher From across the border: Gotta say, I much preferred that era, we had actual pop music, original content and creativity instead of endless remakes/remixes and turds like Badshah.
Damn india had a pop scene :0 I wish they would revive it. Now that bollywood is being viewed with hostility it would be an amazing time to develop an idol like market.
These too dr zeus>>>>>>>>>>>>> badshah. zeus had the best beats ever. Queen Asha Bhonsle contributed too
i keep dreaming about it. But indians love fights etc. our idols will fight with each other and bully each other to gain publicity etc
Can't believe I forgot the actual most iconic/popular bops from that time lmao. I linked some of my favs in my earlier comment but these ones, while not my favs were popular af lol. Alisha's Made in India was what people today would call viral lol, it was EVERYWHERE. My parents who never listen to Hindi music knew this song lmao. Daler Mehndi ofc, he came out with this first, I remember me and my friends dancing this for our school annual function: People criticized him saying his songs become hits only coz he features models in his MVs, so to counter them he brought out a song featuring only himself in front of green screens and the rest is history And the OG hoe anthem with this meme MV lol, with such precious lyrics as "How can I, I'm a star hip hopper. She's my bai just a part time naukar" Even the remixes back then were popular af: And ofc, the most iconic of all of them, with an MV so risque even by today's standards, I remember many channels banned this lol. Kids would hide from their parents to watch this lel. @Kaikat @skinnny_legendGD have you seen these
Yesss Dr Zeus, even others like Jay Sean, Jazzy B, Rishie Rich lol. So much better than Badshah and Yoyo Also that Aryans MV has a very young Shahid Kapoor as the lead lol.
Not too likely I'm afraid, idol culture just won't work in India, can you imagine teens/young adults agreeing to all the restrictions and bans lol. So many former SNS posts potentially dug up and exposed leading to cancel parties on Twitter. More than that, people just stick to Bollywood music no matter what, and whatever the big channels like T series put out. Alongside some Punjabi and regional music, but yeah the pop scene has basically died. You have the indy scene which is thriving ofc but that's nowhere near mainstream. You get bops like these tho:
my childhood memories.I have listened to so much strings cuz my father was a fan.I have listened to many old bollywood and pakistani songs cuz my father would play it in our car.The nostalgia
