I was excited for the concept of the survival show The Unit, but it looks like a mess.

It's unfortunate. I liked the concept of what I thought the show was going to be about - giving failed idols, or those from disbanded groups, a second chance at a career, etc. But the more I read about it, the more it seems like it's just an opportunity for some agencies to get promotion for some of their lesser known groups. Such a shame. I really thought it was going to be something really fun to watch. But it seems like just one giant infomercial.

The show has always been to give attention to smaller groups though

Like I said in my op, when I first heard about the show, I had come under the impression we were going to see more idols from groups that had filed or disbanded. I was really excited to see idols from girl groups like Chocolat, Chi Chi, Evol, Tiny G, G-Unit, Skarf, Glam, etc, the list goes on. It would have been a lot of fun to see contestants actually competing for something that would be really important to them. But I'm just not impressed with the contestants so far. And even more disappointed that the idols participating are just gonna go back to their old groups after.

I think part of the purpose was to bring focus to small groups
But seriously, there's just too many of them
plus a company called Yama&Hot chicks sent their flops
    but srsly "Yama&Hot chicks"

Yeah that's the point I'm getting at. I thought it was primarily going to feature idols from disbanded groups.

Still gonna watch cause Subin baby is in it, also Rain as a mentor :lover1:

But yeah, I think is going to be kind of a mess? there's a looot of agencies involved, some of the suspected participant are recently debuted groups and I think that kinda puts the older participants at a disadvantage, but well, lets see how it goes.

I don't know how well it would work.......
PD101 S2 and the resurrection Nuest worked because the number of already debuted idols on that show was low. So they had that extra factor which put people on their side
But with this show that factor goes out the window because everybody is a debuted idol.....

I'll wait for the format, editing style and possibly some interesting contestant.
Like I with PD 101 I Thought it gonna be cut throat boring show and they proved otherwise..a cut throat fun show
If you meant subin dal shabet, she wont be there because of schedule.

I'm not happy about rookie groups (and one that hasn't even debuted!) using this to get their names out. It's a way for their agencies to cheap out on promotions instead of doing their job. Plus it hurts the new groups, because it delays promotions and could lead to some members winding up in a project group. It's not good for a member to take a hiatus from a group before it's found its footing. That member may become bigger than their original group, which hurts the other members when they return, or the project group may bomb, which means that idol wasted half a year of their lives when they really needed to establish a name for themselves in their original group.

If this show were smaller (which it really, really should be!) and more restrictive with admission rules this would have been a better show.

So, DIA is the pioneer of this type of "opportunity"?

That was always the point of the show though, To have idols from unpopular groups compete in a produce101 type of survival show. I don't think it's messy, I think you were just misinformed about the shows concept. Personally, I'm really looking forward it considering I dont follow any of the groups or idols that have been confirmed for the show so I'm looking forward to seeing their full potential. This is just a show to help better promote the groups and help them gain more fans. I think it's a pretty good marketing strategy tbh and everyone is an idol so there won't be some inexperienced untalented individuals that will mess up performances because they at least know the basics of singing and dancing
