Vietnam is a SEA country, but the govt is communist and very similar to China. There is a reason why it's called the mini-China. Anti-korean sentiment are rising in Vietnam after many years of koreans treating them as garbage. Especially the foreign bride situation. Also, lately many korean events involving Kpop idols and celebrities are boycotted by domestic artists because of unfairness and treatment. VPOP biggest star, Son Tung M-TP would rather work with american stars like Snopp Dogg than Kpop groups. He has videos with over 100-200 million views and he avoids any korean events, even after many invitations. Vpop, their music industry is booming and they would rather support their own than foreigners. If Vietnam bans Kpop, it could be a domino effect in the rest of SEA. Kpop never cared about SEA frankly. So for them, it's probably no loss right?

I love Vpop...(you can tell by my siggy and profile pic)...I mean, I get the importance of protecting their music industry and their local artists...there is space for everything in music.

But that benefits both country. Unlike Kpop, they just use Vietnam as a base for spreading Kpop without giving anything in return for the country. Vietnamese artists are always sidenline when Kpop groups are in the same event as them. They are not allowed to be in the VIP seats, and must sit with audience. Many have started to boycott and don't show up. Rightfully so.

But it has to go both ways. Not just the benefits for Korea.

Oh definitely agree. I don't mean to say that Kpop should be given some extra fair treatment, I just think that when it comes to music, whatever is the IT thing right now, it will get so much attention. It's about making money and these places where Kpop stars are invited will try to get as much money out of them as possible. Sucks, but I think that the push back is a good thing too. The locals have to be the ones to dictate how their own artists should be treated, it is their music and culture after all.

Why would Vietnam inspire a domino effect? You think everyone in SEA is salty over some preferential treatment?
Western artist have preferential treatment everywhere, where is their ban?

I am amazed at Japan still allowing Kpop and how people are consuming it. If similar relationship was going on between my country and SK, we'd boycott their asses. Japanese are such softies.

As a half-vietnamese myself, I do want to see a fair collaberation between Vietnam and Korea, where both countries benefits from it. My desire is to see Vpop artists sharing stage with Kpop idols, making songs with them and that Kpop agencies are willing to take in vietnamese trainees to debut vietnamese idols like thais idols. But they refuse and comes with arguments that Vietnam is dirt poor, ugly and no economic benefits. Well, if that's the way they see us, then we don't want you here. Go to China, Japan or America.

Vietnam is a authorian country. They will eventually restrict Kpop. Last year, a lot of Kpop events\concerts was postponed by the govt without any reason.

That's one of the reasons why Korean companies don't wanna do much in Vietnam. Govt holding a lot of power and not having to respect some rules is kinda scary.

I get that, but Vietnam isn't China. China kinda gets away with doing anything they want because they are 2nd america. Basically how the US can get away with doing anything cause no one wants to be on the bad side of the US economically.

I don't know how much of a leader SK products are in SEA/Vietnam, but i don't think most countries have the capital/geopolitical weight to ban SK music. China banning kpop didn't help relations between the two countries. Can Vietnam or other SEA countries afford to be on SK's bad side.

Well, if Korea is racist towards Viets, then go for it, ban Kpop. I've heard some Viet songs and they're quite good too.
