How Did You Get Into Kpop? Hello again. Activity for today. How the hell did you get into this mad mad world of Korean pop? What led you to such a rash decision? Momentary lapse of judgment? Pretty boys? Pretty girls? Killer tunes? Fashion? What?! Share your journey into kpop! Mine: Spoiler So it was 10 long years ago. There I was in class being studious when my Korean friend tapped me on the shoulder and said... Eman... look at this. And on her phone was SNSD's Into The New World.... just released a few days prior. So I watched. Honestly I wasn't convinced until..... Yoona. She appeared and suddenly I turned back to my friend and said, "Who is she? Who is this girl?" "Oh that's Yoona." Dear Allkpopers I was smitten. Henceforth I was a Yoona fanboy and SNSD stan. Things haven't changed in the last 10 years. I'm still a little boy admiring his crush from afar. Thanks Yoona for getting me into this mess. I heard of kpop before and I was super curious how the music sounded like, so instead of going on Youtube to watch music videos, I got a radio app and searched up Kpop stations. I picked a station, listen to the station for a good month and a half. I liked almost all the songs from groups like Wonder Girls to Mblaq to DBSK. Then I heard Infinite's Destiny, that's when I decided to watch the music video and I felled in love. 3 years later, still kpop trash
Was watching random videos and clicked on this Fell in love with Yoona's first shot in the 1st sec, and then Taeyeon's voice so..
Bubble pop was in my recomendations idk why, after that, 4minute, i loved the group and i started to search for more groups until i found Snsd and i fell in love with them
It was through an online friend that was a huge K-Pop Fan. This was around May 2012 when me and another Fanfiction.net user were talking through PM (we were friends since the two of us were in Metal Fight Beyblade Fanfiction Community there). During our one of famous PM sessions, she told about a show called Hello Baby . I asked her what is Hello Baby. She explained to me what is Hello Baby and told about a particular season from Hello Baby (Season 2 to be exact). At the same time, she gave a brief explanation of who is SHINee and their members along with the baby (well toddler in their case). I ended up watching all 12 episodes and the special episode in 2 days. Since I got invested in the show, I looked up SHINee MVs and the first one I saw was "Lucifer" and I watched it. It really caught my I and I was able to identify all the members in 1 try since I got to know them through watching Hello Baby. Because of SHINee's Hello Baby, I was able to know a little about Girls' Generation through the show since they were guests during episode 5 of SHINee's Hello Baby. Basically this is what made me get into K-Pop.
@emanresu10 I had a similar experience to you. 200?: My brother tried to teach me the choreography to this "Tell Me" song. I thought it was J-pop. (First introduction to K-pop but I didn't know.) 2010: I was so annoyed with J-pop everywhere. J-pop just isn't my flavor. One day, while playing a korean MMO called Shaiya, someone had a video playing in their player profile. It was SNSD's "Chocolate Love." It was asian, but it wasn't cringy like I find most J-pop stuff. I realized it was Korean. It had beautiful girls (Yoona was the one that I got the girl crush on), cute choreography, awesome production and the song was so So SO CATCHY! It was weird, odd, but I found it so intriguing. I looked into it and found out about this wonderful world of K-pop. Things waned a bit while I was still in my rap, metal mode. 2012: Gangnam Style reawakened my intrigue for this Korean music again. I got introduced to Big Bang and a few others. I never really got totally hooked into it yet. I jammed to it... but it waned again once the fad died out. 2015? 16?: Trap music was wearing out it's charm on me so I decided to re-visit this Kpop thing again after hearing 2ne1 in a commercial on TV. ToppDogg caught my attention and really pulled me in. I would occasionally listen to Big Bang and 2ne1 stuff. ToppDogg introduced me to B.A.P. and BTS. I was slowly lowering myself down the K-pop hole on a rope till I found BTS and I just let go and did the free-fall. By the time I hit the bottom it was like landing in a ball pool with a Kpop group's name on each ball. It's bliss.
Spoiler: long story watched a fine bros react video about misogyny in the kpop industry in 2014(?). I was like disgusted but intrigued at the same time. i forgot about it for awhile. then in 2016 pandora kept on recommending me kpop and I think the first song i liked was hello bitches, amusingly enough. from that point i didn't stan any groups really except exo, who got recommeded under the kpop section of apple music or something. I memorized all the lyrics to call me baby and then monster when it came out that year. I was an exo-l kind of but I wasn't aware. then summer 2017 i threw myself completely into kpop because i was bored and every other youtube vid i saw was "ANY ARMYS HERE XD" and it pissed me off...but i was also curious. I was like, "I want to know things, I don't want to be left out of the loop." So i searched BTS up google and instantly fell in love with Suga since his stage name is the same nickname as Sugawara from Haikyuu lol TL;DR: Starting off thinking kpop was cruel and misogynistic (it kinda is) and then became an exo-l for awhile before getting busy with school. Then wings came out, I got curious about BTS, and the next summer break I decided to stan BTS and specifically Suga because his name reminded me of an anime character I liked.
I knew Kpop from Gangnam Style but I didn't like the song, Later from ||SUPERWOMAN|| on YouTube I discovered BTS, and fell down K-hole, slowly I discovered exo, from recommended list, then Twice from TT, Blackpink, and later SNSD from Kpop 1st wins emotional video... So far, BTS is ub, then MAMAMOO and SNSD...so on lmao
I was watching a bunch of promposal videos and one of them had Taeyang's Where U At. Found the music video then somehow got found YouTubers react to k-pop and well here I am.
-Stumbled upon DB5K during websearching on boa. they're good looking. -Started to search for DB5K and their songs. I stanned them. -Then the split up came, and I totally lost interest in kpopfor 6-7. -Sis kept blasting bts' songs in late 2015. I did liked jk's voice as I kept asking my sis on whose voice it is. So, I'm pretty much drawn to my ub's voice from the get-go. LOL. -i was bored this year. So i did searched up latest news on kpop. -I havent heard of twice and faintly remembered exo because lsm did announce of debuting a new boygroup. -i liked cu, tt and kk. -went to watch exo's mv, mini-drama, variety shows. They're a good group but i cant seem to stan them. -stumbled upon bst and fire on recommendation list and got interested. Yup, I'm stanning them. I'M QUITE SURPRISED AT THE FANWARS THO. LOL! It was never this bad in 2nd gen.
Uh so I lost a bet with a friend who likes K-pop and the loser had to replace all of their music with the winners choice. That would be K-pop. I fell in love with BTS's, EXO's, and f(x)'s stuff so I started exploring. And BOOM yet another K-pop trash was born.
2000 something - first exposure when my cousin downloaded BoA and Se7en songs onto my iPod but I thought it was Japanese. 2009 - a friend of mine mentioned something about Mirotic and I wrote it down because I've never heard the word before. A few days later I youtubed it, found DBSK, and googled them. Honestly thought Jaejoong was a girl the first time I saw his pic. But I watched more MVs, learned their names, watched variety shows, and fell down the DBSK/kpop rabbit hole. I still think Mirotic is one of the most, if not the most, iconic songs in kpop history.
